My guess is that like the Sears Tower observation deck, the amount of people visiting is so huge that they really want to move these people along.
John Hancock in Chicago has at least one little cafe on the observation deck, and then a restaurant and a bar the next floor up. That is what the WTC should have done.

I don't want to stray too far off topic, but John Hancock's observatory is really top notch.

For me....a observatory floor with glass like the Sears tower...or the new WTC 1 is not a observatory. The air in the face like the ESB is amazing and really is good for the tourist.

Is there a thread about observatories?
I'd like to continue this conversation where it really belongs.

Back to One World Trade Center -- this tower should be topped out pretty soon!

I really think they are going to do base glass now. Look at how they are releasing renderings and all the things that are occuring at the base

I agree, it could be anyday now that we'll finally see the first glass panels. Probably not this weekend with the holiday and all. But very soon!

1 World Trade Center offers warm welcome

"Perforated aluminum screens behind the steel slats will be illuminated, making the entire tower podium glow by night — a suitable companion to the lit-up base of 7 World Trade Center nearby.

Cladding the podium will cost $40 million. Installation is to start in October."

They have 40 million to clad a part of the tower which will be only visible on ground level, but screw up an antenna because of 20 million which will be visible for miles and miles outside of the city.

i dont get it. -.-
