I agree that it is nice to see the tower from this viewpoint, but do we really need to have all of these pictures quoted and posted several times page after page after page? Couple that with all of the off topic discussion lately and this thread is unreadable.

I think the builders of The Shard in London (to name one example) could learn a thing or two about how to do glass from this building. Sometimes I get the feeling that some builders just don't really give a damn enough to do a proper facade, so I'm very pleased to see the builders of One World Trade Center got it right. This building looks absolutely amazing.

Who cares? This is the most dysfunctional thread I've ever seen, that's why I never post here anymore.

The shards cladding is far more expensive. But let's not start a debate.

The cladding looks the same as every other new building in NY.

Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean that it's a better quality glass I love London <3

Lets just take a look to the facts:

Scheldebouw (a subsidiary of the Permasteelisa Group) won the £60 million contract to fabricate nearly 11,200 panels for the Shard's facade
while Benson Industries won the $160.65 million contract to fabricate 11,311 panels for WTC Tower One's facade, I think it's pretty obvious which one is more expensive.

Both curtain walls are innovative and share similarities, like using low-iron glass or allowing more daylight to come in than any other typical facade.
And about one being superior than another, well that's just a matter of taste.
