SO I'm guessing the parapet shouldn't take long since their are no floors. So what exactly are we waiting for next and how long.

I'm pretty sure you haven't seen it in person as you live in Bogota,Colombia.Us New Yorkers,a very good portion, find the site as a nice successor to the prior WTC complex.

It's toped-out,but I'm guessing they're going to install some random beam on 9-11-12 to make news nationwide.

If it were actually topped out, we would have ten pages of bananas.

"So just as two towers are finally nearing completion at the World Trade Center — adding substantially to the Lower Manhattan office inventory — Brookfield Office Properties, the publicly traded owner of the World Financial Center, finds itself trying to fill three million square feet, most of it currently leased by Bank of America for its Merrill Lynch unit. The bank is moving most of these offices to its tower at One Bryant Park on 42nd Street and the Avenue of the Americas, and has renewed only 800,000 square feet of its original 2.7 million square feet."

From the NYTimes.

Bad news for 2 and 3 wtc.

No matter how tall future skyscrapers get in New York City, One World Trade Center will forever have a special place in the skyline!

I never got to see the old towers in person. I had booked a trip to New York (for a first visit) on 09.22.01. The Twin Towers of the WTC was FIRST on my list to visit. When I go back to NY, I can't imagine the emotions I'll feel when I see the new 1WTC.

I will reserve my excitement until all the spandrels are in. How many need to be installed? about 30 or so?

I believe 48 spandrel beams: 16 parapet beams x 3 spandrel beams per parapet beam = 48 spandrel beams.

Maybe I wasn't using the proper terminology...

When I look at what is completed on the perimeter as of this moment, I count 38 horizontal beams missing (6 on the eastern columns forming the lowest ring, a full 16 on the middle ring above, and a final 16 on the uppermost ring, aka the parapet beams?)

There are plenty more than that. Judging by the combination of the link to a photo by KenFromJersey previously posted here and EarthCam, this is how we stand: 15/16 bottom spandrel beams are placed, 10/16 middle spandrel beams are there, but no top spandrel beams have been placed. So we are 1 beam past the halfway point with 25/48 spandrel beams placed.

EDIT: The top beams I am referring to are the next to last knot in the parapet beams. I think the top knots will just help with holding the glass, and not have spandrel beams placed in between them. However, if they are for spandrel beams (which seems redundant) we are 25/64. Otie??
