Dude, zip it already. Your daily posting average is over three, is this the way you contribute to this forum?

A 30 minute interview with reporter Scott Raab who gives insights into construction at World Trade Center sight.

Despite Political Infighting, Construction Continues at WTC Site
Wednesday, August 15, 2012 - 03:10 PM

By WNYC Newsroom

Two important milestones were reached recently at the World Trade Center site: the 9/11 Memorial opened in September and One World Trade Center became the city's tallest building in April.

But the project's been beset by many delays over the years.

Reporter Scott Raab has been documenting the rebuilding process for Esquire. He was on WNYC's Leonard Lopate Show discussing the behind-the-scenes dealings for the rebuilding.

In his most recent article, he discusses the different political infighting — between the Port Authority and the NYPD, between the governors of New York and New Jersey, and between various stakeholders — that has beleaguered construction.

He also discussed the ballooning cost of the transportation hub being built by the Port Authority.

"The PA was seduced by this monumentalism, which really infected the whole site to some degree," he explained.

"This idea of tribute, of paying tribute by building this lavish [building] — and having the one-name, star-architect, Santiago Calatrava, build it. It was supposed to be federally funded to the tune of $2 billion. It will come in at somewhere around 4 billion dollars,” he said.

Chris 12etc. Yeah the base structure has a reverse taper at the base and corners but the last redesign will complete the outside facade as vertical walls and corners rising the the tower above which will also have vertical walls. The only tapers will be at each corner of the tower till they expand and meet at the top giving the facade 4 vertical triangles with the horizontal edge at the lower edge and 4 sloping triangles with the horizontal edge at the top of the triangle meeting at the roof forming a square in plan view rotated at 90 deg relative to the base.............hmmm

I don't know how the crane will be tied in to the spire/antenna [if even] but I made up a tie in design for visual representation of the basic idea. I made the yellow [South] crane as tall as the crane on the setback of T4, so I know it is possible for the south crane to reach that height. I lowered the North crane back down because it seemed really awkward and impossible to stabilize.

awesome as usual.

I cant believe the green crane in your rendering is only tied into the parapet steel that little bit. Seems like it would be too small of a pad to support the compressive forces of the weight of the crane.

It's more of a place holder, as are the tie-ins. I'll change it once they get to that point in the actual construction, until then, this is all I have.
