The bedrock is strong enough, the base big enough and how much more difficult and expensive could it possibly be to go another 225 feet and REALLY make this a building to behold?
they cant because of the design..it would trash the building adding floors, because the design wouldn't allow it

A couple of modifications and it would work. They've already changed it a few times while it's been in progress. extending the top won't change a whole lot from what I can see looking at it now.

Dude, think about that for a second. Actually spend a few seconds and think about what you're posting.

The Building tapers and reaches an endpoint,it's not like tower 3 or 4 which do not taper. Besides, adding more floors to a building is dangerous, it could cause collapse of the upper floors.
Watch Modern Marvels.
What has been changed with the design in progress? The cladding and the antenna, not the shape, nor height of the tower.

You can't suddenly change the design for a building when it's just about topped out and add hundreds of more feet to the height! Think of all of the complexities involved in designing a building. The elevators are designed to serve certain floors, everything in this building has probably already been manufactured and is waiting to be delivered to the site when the time is right. We've all seen photos of the antenna structure that's already built and waiting to ship. Any changes that have been made during the construction of this building have been minor ones that will have no impact on the overall design.

I think he wanted to say that these changes could have be done before construction. But I think 1776 is more symbolic than 2001ft. 2001ft could hurt some people I think, maybe I'm wrong.

all of this symbolism seems meaningless to me now. It was a nice concept a few years following 9/11 but now i just to see this completed. There's been too much gridlock, too many changes for me to care about the aesthetics anymore. As long as everything is built.

Agreed. Symbolism is nice to a point. The actual building though, needs to be an economic generator to its owners or there's no point in it being there. Hopefully he was saying changes could be made pre-construction. Otherwise I think he needs to think through his comment. Add 250 odd feet of mass to the structure and you could overtax the supports. No sane person wants to see another building pancake itself on that or any other site ever again!!!!!!!

Wonderful photo. What's actually the work of the dark covering at the top of the building?

I know this is extremely off thread, (hopefully moderators will allow), but when other users say "( say to check out modern marvels, and see why it's dangerous to go too high,) on the web,, is there a site you can go to other than youtube, where mostly you get just bits and pieces of something like the John hancock center,, where can you go where you don't have to actually give them any personal info, like cc#? Hopefully someone can help.. If so greatly appreciated.. Thanx

Looks as if that tape like material on the base is actually what will support the base cladding. It's been added on the base, and it looks as if they are adding the non-structural steel.

It is exactly 4000 days since 9/11. Could be completed in 5000 ?
