For the generation that lived in New York prior to the existence of those towers, they may have been an eyesore;
however, for my generation of natives (born in '88), I can tell you they were loved by just about every city kid you could find. That's a ******* fact.

thanks for the replies, good to hear it reached it's final height, so it is not too long until the spire can come up. but i have to agree it does not look that tall, but then again when 2WTC comes up the cluster will look a lot denser.

The hell it doesn't look tall. Save those comments for when you've seen it in person.

I have to admit it too 1 wtc does not look that tall when compared to the twins , sometimes i cant believe that 1 wtc is the same size as the north tower,but never the lease 1 wtc is a great addition here to the New York sky line, but 1 wtc is still huge when you see it in person.

i wonder, is the footprint of the new tower larger than the twin towers? if so that could explain why it looks shorter. roppongi hills tower is a great example of that. fat towers tend to look shorter than slimmer towers of equal height.

I'm a child of the 80s from outside of NYC, and they were certainly my favorite skyscrapers as I was growing up. As you said, those were were alive before/during the construction may have been swayed by some of the early criticism before they became an iconic part of the skyline, especially in the 80s. Seems like every 80s movie that took place in NYC had to show some establishing shot of the WTC.

looks like the site is shut down today. id guess they dont want any noise or activity going on while there is a service.

Also probably do not want the risk of something falling or machinery operating.

Seeing as though it is the 11th anniversary of 9/11 I have decided to put up some photos of my trip to the World trade center site in both early November 2001 and December 2011.

2001:

2011:

We will always remember those who lost their lives that day and although the scar of 9/11 will never heal, but with this new world trade center I hope we can once again look upon lower Manhattan and not feel like its missing something. God bless the victims and never forget 9/11.
