Chrysler is debatable, but besides that I agree.

thirdly, even if a 'beacon' is added on the antenna, it does not change the fact the empire state building, or any building with an antenna, could do the exact same thing, and change the official height (again there is no way that is going to happen).

fourthly, even if the 'beacon' is considered an architectural element, it doesn't change the fact that it is sitting on top of an antenna, which is not!!!

Firstly, it's not an antenna, it's a guyed mast.
Secondly, there's no new design at all, all they have done is remove the architectural enclosure from the mast.
Thirdly, the beacon will indeed be the same as planned, contract won by Five Star Electrical Corp.
And fourthly, they just can't place a beacon of this magnitude on top of any building's mast, the structure must be able to support and house the fixture.

Calm down dude, this is not something that you need to have a volcanic eruption about.

Spires are part of the building, so they count to the height.

However, One World Trade is best viewed from El Toro since you have more time to look.
Having ridden Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point, a similar ride, I can imagine why it took you so long to spot it!

Isn't a beacon really just a warning light on top of any tall structure whose main purpose is a safety precaution for aircraft? They have them on top of everything that's tall including television towers and if you look at a night photo of the Sears/Willis Tower you'll see that it's lit up like a Christmas tree and and as I've said before it has a much more substantial visual appearance than the 400 foot stick on this building and yet it's not counted in the total height. This isn't intended as being argumentative in any way, it's just that the antenna on 1WTC has been an ongoing source of dispute and I don't believe it should be counted as part of the height based on the renders I've seen. If you look at a night time skyline photo of any big city you'll see that beacons are placed on top of anything that's potentially a risk for low flying aircraft.

I believe the base stays naked for some time. The main tower isn't due to be topped out with cladding until late January 2013. Given the shear amount of activity and loading still required all around the base, I think they'll hold off putting up material that will no doubt be damaged. (I could be wrong, it's very "PA" to put something up "just because" and not care amount the damage or inconvenience).

Current schedule:

1: The 2 cranes jump into the "doghouse" by the end of this week.
2: East and West cooling towers go up.
3: Build north crane support platform by Labor Day.
4: Relocate north crane by mid September.
5: North cooling tower by Sept 20.
6: 2nd tier of temp platform for south crane.
7: South crane relocates to support platform by end of October.

Add what you want to that for typical delays.

I completely agree with you. I think its funny when people say 1WTC will be the 3rd tallest building in the world. It will barely reach the top 10 and will fall out of the top 10 by 2014. And now the top is not even a spire anymore. 1,368 is the roof height to this building, that is the height I'm going by.

And by the way NYC has one 1,000+ feet tall building right now, ESB. One57 and 1WTC don't get added until they are completed. That person included 432 Park Ave. and Coach Tower too, just ridiculous.

Damn, I'd love to see a photo from above. That would give us some idea about the progress on the roof. I'm glad that they already started cooling tower instalation

I apologize for being off-topic, but this is a video I simply could not keep to myself. It was posted today so I doubt many have seen it yet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVJDC_jLeFo

It's as if this person went back in time and filmed nearly every angle of the original WTC complex that I was curious about.

Moderators, feel free to move this post to a more appropriate thread.
