Yeah I too have to ask (since I seemed to have missed the news). Did the original spire get approved instead of a traditional antenna?

Last time I was on this thread, there was the talk of putting a crappy antenna there, so yes, sorry. I had always hoped (and figured) the real spire would go ahead; just never saw confirmation of it since the whole proposal for the antenna was purely in the interest of maintenance and saving money. Sorry for ruffling you.

The new crane's boom arrived on site, and should be going up soon hopefully. It has been quite rainy in NYC these past couple of days. You can see it next to the tower's base in Earthcam!

Come on everybody,, let's entertain the fact of California redwoods on the Tower 5,, "urinal part" as everyone says,, Just how crazy and weird would it be to put California Redwoods on 5 WTC.. I love it and others are agreeing with me...

if that beer belly were to be at the base that tower would look 10x better. Like a mini 3 WTC's with a slanted roof.

I'm just glad that it was cancelled. That site deserves something taller with a better design

It won't be anything taller than four. They should design 5 after WTC4. I'm thinking sister towers.

None of those shots were taken yesterday. Why keep lying when we've already discussed it on this page.
