that's not the base cladding. It's the first row of cladding above the base which has yet to be completed.

...it does look a little like a giant AA battery, doesn't it! But I never thought that as that building didn't exist when I was a kid.

I wonder if this was ever intentional or sheer coincidence?... I've always loved this building. Crazy to think it was built in the late 80s I think? Correct me if wrong

I hope they add One WTC sign front of the building, same kind of red sign that was front of original WTC1.

As for his inspiration... lol it was not a battery. I asked him this today after I saw this thread through google search and showed him this forum. He told me it was to be sorta like a lighthouse looking out over a harbor.
Back to 1 WTC, I used to hate the tapering but wow, I'm loving it more and more each day as the cladding goes up.
