Using soley wind speed to rate a storm is an outdated method. Hurricane Ike (category "2") caused twice as much damage as Hurricane Charley (rated a 4) because of Ike's large size and storm surge.

If anything, it should be storm surge that determines the ranking since that is actually what kills people.

And it will be interesting to see if they remove one of the booms on the cranes up there now. Last year in August when the hurricane was set to hit they remove the boom on the north one and set the cranes to slew freely in the wind.
The red M760d [currently installed]will pick parts from the trailers and position them on the platform where the TG-1900[I only have the tower modeled] will lift them to their final position. The south M760D will be removed before the TG-1900 goes to work, most likely after installing the cooling towers and communication ring structure on that side.

Quick, lets create an end of the world fund. simply contribute your life savings to the fund on December 20th. All proceeds will be donated to funding towers 2 and 3, and finding a practical replacement for 1 WTC's radome. The donations will be made on December 23 amid drunken conspiracy theorists' massive week long binge-drinking and hang-over fest.

I'm pretty sure winds topping 70-80 mph is very strong. I doubt you went through the force of a category 4, maybe the outer fringes.

Down here In Philadelphia, they are reporting that Philly and Ny will get major gust of winds with heavy torrential downfalls.
I'm not sure whether to underestimate it though,Irene barley did damage, so we'll see.

Irene was the 5th costliest hurricane in us history, it simply missed Philadelphia. This is going to be at least as bad.

That fog is amazing.

Anyone remember that movie from a few years back, "The Day After Tomorrow"? Similar scenario...a tropical storm combines with a low from the west which created such low pressure that it drew the stratosphere down to the surface. Of course that was fiction, but they are predicting record low pressures from this storm...something like 924mb.

This just might be twice as bad as Irene, since Irene paralleled the coast we were on the rainier west side of the storm but since Sandy is coming in at a never beforeseen track, we'll get very damaging winds on the east side/center of storm.
