I saw that New York got quite a bit of snow today. Any flooding from melting snow or other damage to the building or site?

hmm i think NY needs more colour, maybe a building with red tinted cladding would be an interesting experiment. The mercury city tower in Moscow is a shining example of a coloured building it's just awesome

Some of the lowrises, like on Prince Street in SoHo have colors, but I agree NYC needs some color on the skyline. NYC also needs more mixed-use buildings..

In other news, a company called Ballantyne Strong won the beacon lighting contract..I think they're based in Omaha. Strangely, their stock took like a 10% dive after the announcement.

I think a very dark wine-red would make for great cladding on a glass skyscraper.

Look at the view...
I think thats the building Jeremy Lin lives in.
Rent in the building starts at like $5,000/mo.; can't imagine the rent for that apt.

I think that NYC needs more glass, more modern buildings.

Ballantyne Strong Awarded Prestigious Contract to Provide New York's 1,776 Foot World Trade Center (WTC) with the Company's Proprietary 'Solutions' High-Powered LED Beacon Lighting

http://www.dailyfinance.com/2012/11/...-contract-to-/

Quote:
OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Ballantyne Strong, Inc. (NYSE MKT: BTN), a provider of digital cinema projection equipment, screens and services as well as specialty lighting equipment, today announced that its Strong Entertainment Lighting division has been contracted to design and produce the world's first high-powered LED beacon light using the Company's unique and proprietary LED 'Solutions' brand technology. The one-of-a-kind custom beacon will be housed in the uppermost section of the World Trade Center's (WTC) antenna structure, currently under construction in New York City's financial district, adjacent to 'Ground Zero.'

The WTC beacon will produce more than 288,000 lumens of LED light output that will project two horizontal beams of light into the New York City skyline to memorialize the tallest building in North America, which will be 1,776 feet tall upon completion. Additionally, Strong is also providing the architectural accent lighting for the 547 foot antenna on the WTC using three different types of custom-made Solutions 650 RGBW LED fixtures. These custom fixtures, when not being used for everyday use in white light, will allow the WTC to color the highest part of its antenna to commemorate holiday occasions and special events.

I don't remember the antenna atop the North Tower ever having a color other than red at its pinnacle. The antenna was always illuminated in white; guess 1WTC will take a page from the ESB/BoA buildings. It'll look great having all the spires in NYC lit.

Wow I wish the light could go vertically so that it could be seen farther away! Does anyone have an idea when we should see the spire lit?
