I'm sure GS has plenty of backup generators but I believe all the buildings in BPC get separate power from the rest of lower Manhattan

Take a look at those aerials during the storm (posted about two weeks ago now), they show everything but BPC pitch black.

funny you guys should mention GS. i just got off the phone with one of my clients (that works in the GS building at 200 west) and although they do have backup generators, he told me that for whatever reason the GS building a couple others on their block continued to have power, so it may have been a random fluke.

edit (talking about during the power outage after the hurricane)

edit 2 (also many of the floors have an open floor plan in the building, so if one window is lit, they probably all are)

Thought this be a nice update: From wtc.com

Under the Port Authority's supervision, tower steel has topped out at the 105th floor with the fitting of the glass curtain wall above the 88th floor and concrete floors poured above the 104th floor. Core shear walls topped out in October 2012 with the final concrete placement extending walls to the 104th floor mezzanine. The elevator landings, stairs and related structural elements is now completed to the 102nd floor mezzanine. All trusses for the east lobby escalators are set in position and the installation of escalators 1-7 are in progress at the east lobby areas between the B2 and ground floor levels. The installation of the 408-foot-tall telecommunications spire is expected to begin in late November 2012 and reach its full height, 1776 feet, in March 2013.

Are you serious???? There are gothic towers made of stone that are 100 times more intricately designed than their neighbors. They are also highly historical structures. Why would you want to make them one more glass-covered box?
