The base...probably approaching eternity...it's like solid rock. If left without any maintenance whatsoever, the steel and cladding would be the most vulnerable. Given enough time, something will break the glass, allowing water infiltration, which, over hundreds of years, would weaken the steel. Eventually that would collapse, leaving some of the core and probably the base. A show on the History Channel, and a book, the World Without Us, covered this topic (what would happen to 'scrapers) quite extensively.

And then there's the matter of earthquakes. There are some who say a severe quake could happen in the New York area, further weakening the structure.

Also, how long will the foundation hold up once it is submerged by seawater? Without human intervention, that will happen in a relatively short time, as it almost did during Sandy.

I read a see the recent posts.....I like the new WTC..but as a person who lived the past and the original this doesn't have the NYC iconic feel........I live as far away as you can get...I went to NY and lived those twin towers.....>I lived, well with great respect, from afar I lived 9/11 on live TV....and I went back in 2007 when it was a hole in the ground ........but I watch every day and respect all that has come since. It is great and brings back a response to 9/11 yet ..really the twin towers were so New York in the history of the world. OK.........History moves on as I am only one of many that lived the transition has to cope with that and know future generations wont understand why I feel like I do....I only wish NY gets it's mojo back...haaa not that it ever left!

This awful blue rounded building is ruining the whole skyline panorama. This should stand in Dubai, not in New York.

WTC1 wil restore the manhattan skyline in honour in my opion. But WTC2,3 makes it complete. It's sad that the economic situation delayed everyting for so far. My fear is that they cut back the design and build smaller buildings instead, in that case it's better to wait 5-10 years more than end up with a downsized construction.

p.s. the designs from 2005 and earlier where disgusting if they had build that instead I would've fully agreed with people that continously complain and asking to rebuild the Twin Towers.

(something I've almost been afraid of to say)

But if WTC2 wasn't that nice by design (thankfully it is), my personal opinion would have been that they build a second version of WTC1.

here's a nice rendering from Miller Hare of 1 WTC with the radome enclosure compared to the official PA rendering
In those pics the antenna looks far better than the spire. To me it is another proof that removing that radome was a good decision

Could someone edit the Shanghai world financial center into a picture of lower Manhattan please? I would like to see if it suits NYC.

I really don't want a 7th 1WTC thread, so could you both shut your mouths so we can try to get back on topic please?

What time of day was that taken MusicMan84? It's an excellent shot.

It would look better in Chicago. I don't think that it fits New York.
