On the concept renders the spire looks so thin and spindly but in reality you need an entire truck to carry a small portion of the spire, amazing!

I agree, the larger ones from the barge will be brought to site during nighttime, the ones already on site look far too small to require a procedure like this:

Quote:
According to The Tribeca Tribune, the massive spire sections will force the closure of roads along the route to the WTC because the spire pieces are so large that they require traffic lights to be moved out of the way by electricians for them to pass. Although the move will take place only at night, from 10 pm to 5 am, travel along the route will be hampered when the move occurs.

Does anyone know where the spire pieces have been put?

Looks like they are going to use more than 5 bolts to connect the mast sections, they have to take on a bigger job than car wheels.

Can someone explain to me why almost all of the tallest buildings try to have an antenne. Most lowrise cities just have one big antenna or TV tower that transmits signals for the whole city, why couldn't the ESB antenna suffice for the whole of New York?

You all are correct. Sections #1 through 8 were on the barge. We're seeing at least two of #9 through 12. Sections #13-16 will be even thinner, but much longer. I wonder if they have room up on the roof to stage these middle pieces? Edit: Looking at the cams, it appears some will be staged on the ground next the the NE corner. One is already standing vertical there.

One of them is standing upright on the north side. Maybe they can store some parts on the western side. I think the free space on the metal deck will be needed for the large parts as storage before they go into their final position..

Seems like a lot of them will sit on the north east side on the metal crane mats. You can clearly see them from the gate there. I want to take a trip over to see them, if I do pics will follow...

Line of sight. Have you been in NYC and had bad cell reception? I have, and that is because your signal is getting blocked by a building. The more transmitters the better. WTC will be taller, as well.

And I think they learned after 9/11 that putting most of your antenna equipment in one bag was a bad idea. Eventually the WTC might be the main broadcasting facility simply due to its height over the ESB and Conde Nast, but I'm sure that there will be backups on the other buildings as well.

Probably because of the fish-eye lens. Makes distances look farther than they really are. (like the side mirrors on a car)

Has anyone noticed the interesting lighting on the upper floors of the tower right now? I wonder what that's all about.
