check out the faying surfaces at the tops and bottoms. Milled and ground prep.

My guess is not wanting to damage that prep or the flange of the sections

Makes sense, I'd imagine they'd want a perfect fit

Channel 7 just showed a helicopter view of the piece just going over the top of the tower. Single crane pick but they are using the kevlar straps not the normal steel chokers.

Might make a trip into the city tomorrow morning to snap some pics of the next pick

Great shot!

The crane that lifted it off the barge was the Chesapeake 1000

1wtc is the same height to the roof as the twins with a taller total height. 2 will be a few feet shorter than the twins and the rest are alot shorter.

This morning, the first large piece of the spire for the top of One World Trade Center was lifted up to the top of the building in preparation for installation.

Apparently this is not the base section. This is the first of the smaller sections (I think 7a on the diagram.) The largest section will be the last one to go up next Tuesday.

All of that courtesy of IrishInNYC at WNY.

It is the base section (1A), I asked last night and was told by everyone that it is and it's is the largest size that was manufactured.

You meant to say the complete opposite right?

Maybe at ground level it looks big, but I think at the top it will look very thin and small compared to the thickness of the building.

The covering structure should have made it look larger and therefore in sync with the structure.

That means we have people at the barge telling us one thing, and people at the actual site telling us another.

The syntax was odd, yes. I meant to say the last piece delivered will be 1A and will be hoisted next week. Not the last piece to be lifted.

Of course there's always a chance Irish is mistaken as well. That does look like the base section that we see in the diagrams, both in terms of design and size. Upon further reflection I think Voodoo is correct and it is the base section. It's too big to be #7, which is disappointing because now I realize just how spindly this thing will be.
