I personally don't mind giving one or two hundred bucks. They even could've named the spire after the biggest donor, for instance, the Goldman Sachs Spire or the Exxon Mobil Spire. But now it's too late.
And I'm glad that it's too late because the old spire was way too fat

The antenna looks cheap and tacky. I will never get over this.

I know, but again (and maybe this is just spin on my part), the attention is fast shifting to Midtown anyway.

Seriously though i'll wait until they install a few pieces up there together or until its done completely to voice my opinion. I'm not sure if i care about either design but until it's fully complete and i can see it from a distance up there, i would just be voicing my opinion on the color and the shape of each piece. Might not look to bad. Or it might look terrible.

we shall see

Short Term Time Table

According to IrishInNYC, the actual first section will be lifted on Tuesday December 18th in a tandem lift directly from the trailer to the final location. The piece they lifted yesterday will be kept on top of the platform for now and will wait for the first section. The concrete curb that will hold the antenna is being poured tomorrow.

The old spire was entirley to fat like others have mentioned. I prefer the design before that. The open air spire.

I don't think you guys can say the old spire looked fat, let alone a joint...no one has, or ever will, see it in person plus renderings don't do justice.

I feel the exact same way. This needs to hurry up if it wants to gain some publicity again.

At least this one and 4 are finished next year, you can't say that of 2 and 3.

Yeah, after this spire is installed, all eyes will be on Midtown.

The antenna one 1WTC has ALWAYS looked hideous. Together with the parapet around it, it will create the ugliest roof feature in the history of skyscrapers.

Come on guys. Stop complaining. At least it's nearing completion after years of political BS. NYC may have lost some skyline bragging rights in recent years but in 6 or 7 years it will be in it's own class.

The old spire looked to thick, the new "spire" is an antenna and is way to skinny.
The piece that went up yesterday was one of the thicker pieces, yet it looks so narrow and it only gets narrower and narrower as it rises. It's absurd.
