Coming out of the NJ side it looks pretty good, but it doesn't seem as dominant because you are looking directly at the corner so it's proportions look a bit odd

We all love the twins but most people wont be pleased with what replaces them no matter what. Accept them and you might begin to enjoy them.
If 2 and 3 are scaled down "as I've heard" or ever made for that matter, will they actually be in the catergory of "supertalls'? I'm not being trying to be an ass here I'm just curious?

If Silverstein isn't building de WTC's in it's full height/capacity elsewhere in NY a project developer will build taller towers in the comming years. So eventually the skyline will change with or without the WTC's. Building supertalls is a worldwide competition no matter what it cost crisis or not. The populairity will do the rest is what they think, in many cases they have it by the right end. Maybe WTC1 will pump up the potential on the complex by it's stature/name and will atract more tanents as a result of that.

Imo better wait a couple of years extra instead of downsizing the buildings... Sad.

3 was already scaled down. I hope we dont see any further scaling down, especially on 2wtc because it looks fantastic as is.

Yeah, it was a pretty good year for me as well, considering it's when I was born.

Yeah, I got my Learner's last month.

Back on topic: Really overcast in New York this morning. On EarthCam, 1WTC's cranes are almost completely absorbed in the fog!

Does anyone know why they took down the HD Cam?

There was a little crane activity up top this morning before the snow. I didn't see any activity yesterday (was quite windy). This has been a slow week, probably more due to the weather than the holidays.

The upcoming work week is predicted to be mostly dry. But it's suppose to get a only slightly above freezing on Monday and New Year's Day and then remain below freezing, day and night, from Tuesday night through at least Friday night. The NWS doesn't predict the winds that far out. Hopefully they won't be too strong for the cranes.

Squaring the southeast corner is almost complete:

This is the final straw that broke the camel's back. I am officially no longer interested in One World Trade Center whatsoever. From April 2007 to earlier this year, not a single day passed when I didn't follow 1WTC's progress on earthcam and these forums. In September 2009 I was able to get access inside the construction site and walk around inside 1WTC's lobby. Back then it was a like a young child with a bright future. It could have been something truly amazing.

However, in the years since, there has been one thing after the other taking away all that was good about 1WTC. First it was the scrapping of the restaurant at the top of the building. Then it was the abandoning of the plan for prismatic glass around the base. Then it was the scrapping of the planned spire, not only resulting in its replacement by a hideously bare antenna but also its promised height of 1776 feet. And now, they have officially abandoned the plan for tapered corners in the podium instead replacing it with a square cube, making the base as dull as it could possibly be and the building overall bottom-heavy. The purpose of the tapering-in base was to make the building look like an upward-turned and elongated diamond. The child with the bright future that I met in September 2009 has grown up to be a violently abused drug addict on the streets. For five years I defended this building from people who disliked it and thought the Twin Towers should have been rebuilt. Although I'm not in favor of the Twin Towers 2 idea, I absolutely hate this building now. Sorry if I'm offending anyone, but it's time to stop playing apologist for the Port Authority. I did that after the restaurant and glass prisms, but no more.

Whatever, cry me a river You sound entitled. You should be grateful you are getting a proper building with a decent height. You could have ended up with a giant bird cage or a tick-tack-toe 800foot monstrosity!
