It does matter. Making an observation deck inferior to that of the former complex is just another failure in the rebuilding effort. And when we think that there won't even be an outdoor observation deck ........

I can understand the lack of a outside observation deck because of the antenna radiation, but yes 80ft does make a difference, at least the view will be much better and less obstructed with glass instead of the steel pillars everywhere. Also as said up there, it should be higher than a 80+yr old observation deck.

The difference in height is so minimal that it's unnoticeable. (quality>height) One of the features of the old WTC was that the small windows made the 'vertigo' factor disappear completely from inside. So the inside observation deck wouldn't be nearly as effective as the massive glass wall in the new one. The outdoor observatory, from what I've seen from pictures was not very good, since you could only see the distant sights due to the roof obstructing everything else.

Maybe for the new one you can go to the roof...then get radiation poisoning.

The windows got significantly wider at the top

And oh yeah the COMPLETE lack of vertigo

Because being on the very last floor of the tallest building in NYC isn't enough.

And let's discuss the horrendous views and the "distant sights" (w.e that means, you're after all sight seeing from the building anyway)

Disgusting, WHO would want to go up there?

Honestly, it's pathetic how it's a must to take jabs at the Twin Towers in order to show praise and positivity towards this new building. PATHETIC.

I completely agree with you. Some folks are so desperate to apologize the new complex that they try to bash the Twin Towers whenever somebody mentions one of the new complex' defficiencies

WTF, dude, I didn't take a jab at them. I liked them more than the new one.
The only aspect I didn't like was the interiors. And your pictures showed only distant sights to be visible from the roof... You couldn't see anything nearby.
The new deck will be much better, visually. Yeah, it's not outside, but there's nothing you can do about that.

Awesome photos "w of the w' I've been up there, the only thing you can't see is straight down, and that was to prevent suicide jumpers. If you wanted to look STRAIGHT down, all u had to do was just walk down to the lower level, and look out any damn window you want. "The New Bldg you're still gonna have to be right up against the glass to get any 90 degree angle view.. The Old T1 you could see out any window you wanted, just 1 floor lower than "outside",,Yeah, maybe the windows were smaller but hell, nothing, seriously nothing beats that outdoor observation deck.

True, I agree. Whenever you hear it on tv or documentaries like 'Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero, you will always hear the politicians and other people who support the current rebuilding plan try to trashtalk the old WTC and the Twin Towers, like it wasn't good enough with the closely spaced columns and that they weren't aesthetic enough or about the superblock complex. It looks to me that those people like Governor Cuomo, Silverstein or President Obama always needs to defend with what they are rebuilding is right and that is better, even when the 9/11 museum after hurricane Sandy was flooded 7 ft deep, you can hear governor Cuomo still quoting 'we don't just rebuild, we rebuild better'.

You wanna know what's more pathetic, that they don't rebuild the Twin Towers.
Wasn't it those buildings where the terrorists were after and if we would rebuild them wouldn't it show to the whole world that you can hurt the USA, but that they wil come back stronger and more united and that the country is still the best in the world and that they are not afraid of a bunch of cowards. What would be a better statement tot those terrorists who tried to change the American way of life than to rebuild the Twin Towers.

I have a feeling some if not all of you who are being critical of the Twin Towers didn't even see them in person

I've never seen them in person, but I find they were lovely and iconic.
Maybe it's just a matter to get the eye on the new complex once it'll be completed, but on the other hand I think this will be very difficult for people, like me, who was a child when the 1st WTC was built and had his growth with their image in the eyes.
And, although their box shape could make them to look aesthetically simple, they weren't. Btw: I was amazed by the ground lobby exterior walls, recalling gothic style.

I realize that there hasn't been much construction activity recently but I would prefer to wait for some worthwhile photos and information than have to wade through mindless posts of rambling nonsense. Thanks to those of you who have made this thread so interesting as this project nears completion but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's tired of useless squabbling while we wait for this lull in construction to get back into full swing. Thanks guys.
