Its part of the design. the diameter decreases a little bit there. I just realized something, and I'm about to completely change my opinion of the radome argument. We never heard anything about difficulties with the old north tower's radome. I understand that it was probably still a pain in the a** to repair, but none the less, what appears to be a patch is visible on the side shot of the old antenna. What if the whole reason it's not possible is because a platform on the top of the 1WTC spire was impossible because of the pointy tip. I can't remember where it is, but I saw a video of workers standing on the top of the old antenna next to the access hatch. Who knows, unfortunately, we may never know.

Great pics, that gap seen from the north must be filled with 2WTC and 56 Leonard.

When will the glass cladding reach the top?

I thought it was suppose to be finished by January, now at its current pace, it wont be finished till Summer 2013.

I can't tell, but I don't think the louvers are in yet in the louver wall that will be behind the future exterior panels at the mechanical levels. Just like the base, it will probably take a few months to get those in, but we will be able to watch the base, antenna mast, and mechanical level cladding around the same time. This might be the calm before the storm.

Enough with the complaining as if we haven't heard enough of it here. You didn't even think to see if they covered it with some protective seal to keep it weather-proof

I would say May-Early June if not earlier. They just finished the fire proofing so now they can focus on raising the glass, and the antenna

As PMad pointed out, the inner louvers need to go first.

too bad they didnt make the lobby the same as the twins with the balcony overlooking the lower level. I love this tower but the renderings of the inside of the lobby looks so dull

WTC1 won't ever be the tallest skyscraper in the world, but it's for sure the tallest bunker in the world.

That last picture is an unusual angle, it looks slightly pyramid shaped in it.
