Yes, because a street's only purpose is to serve cars, right?

"Public vehicular traffic" or not, the restoration of the street grid will do wonders for the area.

This is the sort of issue that occurs on US projects of this sort, constantly. What is going on is a battle between unions, the government body (Port Authority), the City, the State, organized crime, and anyone else who wants to get money from this project before the cash flow stops.

What this is, is how corruption appears when reported in the media. Behind the scenes, all sorts of madness is happening, wasting money and payoffs and such.

It will happen in California with the HSR, also.

More and more delays. I love this tower but I think at this point, it's getting ridicilous.

The only thing it would be useful for under the new plan is easier access in case of an emergency, otherwise the streets are basically useless.

Of course there will be streets. But the general public won't be allowed to drive on them.

Like Otie said, I could understand closing off streets like Fulton and Dey but blocking off Greenwich too is very disappointing. I understand the need for security due to the sensitive nature of the site, but I think there's a difference between security and turning the new World Trade Center into a limited access, police controlled development. If I was a company looking to relocate in one of the new towers, I definitely would be very wary about moving into a setting where vehicular traffic has to go through checkpoints and screening processes and blockades/barricades are set up around the complex (if this is what the NYPD's plan is for the WTC).

The only streets being built are Fulton and Greenwich, Dey and Cortland will become pedestrian shopping-like passageways. According to the landscape drawings, Fulton will feature black messabi granite paving instead of the traditional asphalt, while Greenwich will be covered with asphalt. Anyways those two streets (Fulton and Greenwich) are engineered to support vehicle traffic above them, and the buildings are very well protected against car bomb threats, starting with the concrete bollards surrounding every single building.

'Nine upper pieces will complete the spire, but their installation may not begin until late winter or spring depending on weather conditions.'

Is this for real? We have to wait most of a year for the antenna to be completed?

No, it means that the antenna will be done by summer 2013. I think that even the cladding will be done by July 4th and only interior work will remain at that time.

Definitely glad to have seen this being constructed back in 2011. Can't wait to go back and see it completed.
