Awesome! Looks like the next piece will bring the mast above the hole in the platform. The piece after that will definitely start making it show its presence!

It's not very clear how it looks. But at least it is there, and I hope the progress will be as how it is 300m higher. Actually this is a lot easier to place.

Looks like a few stacks of those blue panels have been placed by the base. Lets hope they can move quickly with this!

If god forbid a plane did hit 1wtc, I think the tower would stand. A lot of the glass would be shattered but the building would tolerate it. I don't think we ever have to worry about another 9/11 happening to this tower. There is so much air security, redundant security at airports, not to mention the area is constantly monitored and in the rare event that a hijacker managed to beat all those security measures, any hijacked plane headed towards New York would be shot down, I feel pretty sure. They won't let that happen again, plain and simple, because the mindset is totally different now about air security and guarding high profile targets.

Now, I do think there is a more realistic risk that some lunatics or fanatics might try another car or truck bomb attempt at ground level like 1993, but even that will be nearly impossible due to the much more intense security the site will have. Noone will be able to just drive an unknown truck into the parking area or leave next to the tower without proper clearance. So either scenario is very unlikely next to impossible. So bottom line I think we can all rest assured that 1wtc will stand for many many years!

This is really not what I was expecting. It looks like scaffolding to me. I'm lost. Can someone (Otie, perhaps) explain what we're looking at?

And thanks for the screen grabs.

The panels on the very far edge of the squared off section are the cladding. That big thing is actually scaffolding.

that's weird scaffolding, looks similar to what's behind the glass fins.

also those panels are probably the same thing at the bottom of the base that Otie identified the other day http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...ostcount=41004
