Gotcha, thanks! They're so small I didn't even notice them.

I'm more than positive it's base cladding. Otie said last week that base cladding would begin this week, and I recall reading a post either here or SSP that a load of a reflective material was unloaded by the base.

There is so much air security, redundant security at airports, not to mention the area is constantly monitored and in the rare event that a hijacker managed to beat all those security measures, any hijacked plane headed towards New York would be shot down, I feel pretty sure. They won't let that happen again, plain and simple, because the mindset is totally different now about air security and guarding high profile targets.

Now, I do think there is a more realistic risk that some lunatics or fanatics might try another car or truck bomb attempt at ground level like 1993, but even that will be nearly impossible due to the much more intense security the site will have. Noone will be able to just drive an unknown truck into the parking area or leave next to the tower without proper clearance. So either scenario is very unlikely next to impossible. So bottom line I think we can all rest assured that 1wtc will stand for many many years!
After 9/11, US Navy permanently deployed a Nuclear Submarine in New York Harbor.

So if some plane is hijacked and is used as a weapon, the nuclear submarine will track its movements and then launch a missile to shoot it down before it hits the building.

So I highly doubt another 9/11 type of attack will ever happen again.

Didn't know the navy put a sub in the waters off NY, but I'm sure glad they did! Very reassuring to know that! Can't be too careful in the world we live in.

I think I read that the fins will be added after the stainless steel panels are installed. That does certainly look like the panels though.

Stainless steel slat modules include the perforated panels just behind them, not sure if Five Star Ellectric also awarded the contract to install the LEDs behind the curtain wall.

Podium enclosure will be complete by the end of this year.

People are about to forget about the chamfered base all together. This will look stunning.

A moment of silence for the passing of Mr. Tozzoli.

Guy Tozzoli passed away saturday evening at the age of 90, he used to be Director of the Port Authority during construction of the original trade center.

When I read ' a moment of silence' I thought for a second Mr. Silverstein died.

Still, RIP.

You should apply for a job at Comedy Central with that one...

Wow,the base look 100x better than the renderings,I hope the same goes for the mast.

I was once a doubter of the tower, but wow.The tower just looks so elegant and beautiful.

WTC EarthCams

I emailed earthcam as to why the webcams at http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/worldtradecenter/ are not showing some feeds, they say: "Routine maintenance is being performed at the building where our WTC cameras are mounted. During maintenance, the cameras had to be taken offline. Once maintenance is complete, we plan to get the cameras back online.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!"

I'm still a doubter. The tower looks boring and generic. It could be in any one of a hundred cities across Asia. There's nothing that screams out 'New York' about it or sets it apart from a million other boring glass towers. At least things like the Shanghai tower being built is setting out to be different as is The Shard in London.

New York deserved a better design than this. I've never liked it.
