This shows the radome, which of course will never be manufactured or installed. I think Otie might have a better diagram?

Seems like they are really rushing to get a lot done before the big storm. The NWS is calling for 9-14 inches in lower Manhattan.
Don't forget guys you already have set a precident here in New York. The George Washington Bridge ! You may get to love the naked antenna : )

To everyone that wonders, Lodgy Lion has been banned before. His name used to be Logy Lion. Several months back, he was banned after going on an anti Chicago rant, then attacking me and several others when we disagreed. I have noticed atleast 2 alt accounts from him since then..

Big news: I'm going to make a 32 second long video/render of my spire model with new updates. It will take 7 hours to produce, so expect it by tomorrow night unless something comes up. Here is my first ever video rendering...

More pieces were lifted, and so was a very strange almost lightning rod looking (if not) thing...what could this be? Check out Carlos' last photo on SSP

The rendering has begun... unfortunately in the last hour it climbed from 7 hours to over 15 hours, so I might have it finished and uploaded by late tonight. I'm going to let the computer sit and shut down all non crucial programs and play with the priority settings to try and speed it up. In the time taken to type this its up to nearly 16 hours estimated time at 26 of 1081 frames. I have it set up so that the frame slides up the side of the spire and as each section is at the center of the frame, the next section appears in place above. My theory is that the addition of each piece adds a ton of shadow data [I very rarely render with shadows on, usually just shade]. it skips the second and third to last sections that haven't been modeled yet, but then has rotates over the top of the lightning rod before returning to the first frame. it has a total of 16 scenes, each lasting two seconds at 29.97 FPS. the video is in 1080i. If I can't finish in 24 hours, I will abort and try to upload whatever is finished, its now over 16 hours and at 32 frames out of 1081. Also, I just remembered that the flanges on the connectors are corrected on the base sections, but above the cone are still rotated 45 degrees, and I forgot to adjust the plate thickness at the connections, or add bolts. It's too late to change now for this render.

A day in the life of a SketchUp modeler.

On topic:
They are forcing grout under the bottom section to further anchor it to the concrete and the (brass?) sheaves are still over the bolts. thought they prevented damage to the threads during placement, but maybe also protect the threads from grout. It surprised me to see the nuts not on the bolts yet. And the picture of the Director of Construction looks like the camera man asked "Hey, could you guys hold a plan and pose like your looking at it?"

LOL you got it. That set of "drawings" is usually given to people who organize tours throughout the site, it includes renderings and other imagery that's rather interesting for the public but useless for construction.

Mr. Plate usually inspects other type of documents that are rather complex and very very particular.

It's a government agency, it doesn't have a copyright. It's public domain the moment it's taken. You still source it, they just don't own it.

The image is labeled Port Authority, though I believe it belongs to the Louis Berger Group.

I think the bare anthena looks ridiculously ugly compared to the refined building. Such a shame.

Yes, it's just gonna be an antenna now, no architectural casing. They did it to allegedly save $20 million.

Oh NOOO ... I didn't know that and I can't believe they did.

Why? it was going to be such a beautiful spire and not just an antenna
