From what I can tell, the next piece after the one on the platform will have guy wires.

Sorry guys, but what is a radome?

Is that the cladding or structures that covers the antenna or something else?

Is the antenna going to be a gigantic tall piece of metal in cubical shape and in different parts as I see in that video or will there at least be some sort of a cover to give it more body and a certain playful elegant mass?

It's the white covering they were going to put.

The detailed steel work will be exposed.

It does worry me though. If THE big five (bankers) so rapidly run out of budget to finish the original plan of a beautiful spire with a coating or radome etc etc, will that mean that a new recession is on it's way?!

They said that the spire radome was physically unfeasible to maintain. It had nothing to do with economic reasons.

Childs hadn't given a new easier-to-maintain design proposal, so he is also at fault as well.

It really is very skinny. Sorry, I can't help but think that. I just talked to a worker on one of the top floors via instagram, & he said he heard the antenna should be 100% complete by the first week of April

@MissyC I doubt a design change on this building= another recession. The radome would have been difficult to build and maintain, and would have cost millions of extra dollars.

When is the ring-like structure on top set to go in?

I hope so too.

Maybe it was a very ambitious plan concerning a spire.

Perhaps a more toned down simple design of an antenna will suit the tower the best plus also reminds us a bit more about the twin towers given this change keep its overall look closer to the old tower with antenna. I ll call it a nostalgic designish something :-)

At least the guy wires aren't visible from so far.

It does look skinny so far. Scrapping the radome was a bad idea. but once the antenna gets higher, hopefully it will visually balance out more. I think the guidewires may give it a bit more fuller look. Plus the communications ring also, which will be added later on. I'm reserving judgment but I'm actually optimistic that it will look great when finished..Not sure but is this antenna actually thicker than the one the old North Tower had?

Way thicker. Taller and more massive.

I will wait until the spire is finished and the cranes and scaffolding are removed before I judge it. However, I like it so far.

In this blurry picture, it looks like the original world trade center had a taller antennae, but I guess we just have to wait and see how high the new one will be.

we know how high the new one is, and it is taller, though not by much.
