The old one was 1,727 feet, while the new one should be 1,792 feet.

The mechanical floors are not lit in that picture, so the antenna appears taller.

I guess the new antenna can afford to be slightly thinner as the roof size is a bit smaller than the original One World Trade Center.

I think it will look decent once finished. The communications ring will help set it off more. A bit of trivia some might not know, correct me if I'm wrong but the old North Tower's antenna wasn't even installed/completed until several years after the tower was finished, in about 1978..1wtc's antenna looks more architectural than the north tower's more generic-looking one.

have we confirmed if the catwalks attached to the sections are temporary?

I think they are and will be removed after the sections are bolted together.

In our skyscraper world even though it's impossible now, had the bldg tapered 20 stories or higher more,, that antennae wouldnt look so thin, would have a nice flow like ESB,, but that'll never happen.

Yes, those are temporary, workers will climb the temporary stairs and access the platforms/catwalks.

All of the angles in 1WTC are getting stunner and elegant.

The tower is looking fantastic. I can't wait for the other towers to be built. The skyline will look unbelievable once complete. 2 WTC is my favourite, but they're all good designs, and they will complement each other nicely.

The current spire has to be as thick if not thicker than the original one on the north tower. There's no way it is thinner because the spire looks huge from the pics.
Not like it even matters anyway, it still looks good and that is the only thing that matters.

I was one of the people who thought the antenna would look fine and not ugly since the announced the change... I realized I was wrong... You cant even SEE the antenna from Liberty Island... Why count something as a final height when you cant even see it?
