This tower is very good looking, can't wait to see it finished.

What I've seen so far is comparable to the original WTC antenna. It's OK, but it should be treated as such and not counted in the final height.

No, it should be counted in height because this is part of the building and its a mast not an antenna, it will have antennas attached to it apparently but this itself isn't one.

Hi guys, I haven't been keeping up with 1WTC as much as I used to, and it's great seeing the spire being installed but I'm wondering about something that's been bugging the hell out of me. Does anyone know if the spire will have the twin beems of light rotating outward horizontally over the city? Or was this tossed when the plans for the spire cladding were tossed?

Yes, the LED beacon will be installed atop the spire in the coming months.

My point was that money is not the reason the radome was scrapped. It was the maintenance issue. That means that the only way you can really talk back to him is to offer a solution to the maintenance problem. Either you suggest to his company a solution or accept what you get and stop whining.
No one is buying that. It's pretty obvious that the architects and engineers knew what they were doing with the spire and the people at Durst determined it was too costly to maintain.

Am I the only one who thinks the base cladding looks good just the way it is now with the fins flat? Also, does anyone have pictures from inside the building to see how the office space and things are coming along?

Wait are the beacon lights going to rotate like a lighthouse?

I know there's going to be some kind of light at the top, but is it just going to be an ordinary beacon light like the one atop the original 1WTC (flashing red)? Or is it still going to have the two beams shooting out in opposite directions while rotating (like a lighthouse)?

The red lights are for aircrafts. As far as I know a full decorative light will be installed.

Well, everyone else is buying it. And suppose he is telling the truth (I think he is) the only way you have any chance whatsoever to regain the spire covering is to offer a solution to the maintnenance problem. Then he will have no excuse to not build it, since 20 million dollars is something that companies like that can find under their couch cushions.

I think there's quite a few of us who aren't necessarily put off by the appearance of the antenna and our only issue is that we're opposed to bending the rules for this particular building due to its symbolic importance and the significance of the 1776 height. I think when the antenna is completely installed and all of the clutter is removed it will be reasonably attractive and also serve a functional purpose but it clearly will not deserve the designation of having enough architectural significance to be classified as a spire which would give it about another 400 feet in height. That would discredit the organization who decides on the official heights of buildings based on certain criteria and also be a slap in the face to the people of Chicago whose Willis Tower is clearly taller than this building. Don't get me wrong, I love the 1WTC and have enjoyed watching it's construction but the only answer to this dilema would be to make whatever additional alterations that are necessary to convert an antenna to an imposing spire similar to what we saw on the original renders.
