there will likely be both, a standard flashing red one to warn aircraft and the decorative horizontal beacon below
This is visualhouse's rendering.

Both. They are definitely still installing the rotating beacon. It should be there in a few weeks.

You think everybody in Chicago is upset because their Willis Tower maybe won't be the tallest anymore. I bet if you ask some chicago people what they think they will say: ''I have no idea''

Not to sound untrusting but can you give a source for this? (It's just that everyone here is saying something different and so I don't know what to believe until I see something more official.)

Most wouldn't care, but there would a select (vocal) few who would.

I'm still waiting for an observation deck in the US that will be higher than Willis'. Don't see it happening in the next 20 years.

If I have to deal with your posting on every page, I can put up with a few antenna complaints here and there as well. You posted about five times back to back on the same page where you complained about people complaining.

Christ almighty.

Edit: Do you even know who Durst is? What kind of person he is? Here's a clue.

His father helped form this group against the original WTC, and his son continued doing so before he bought his stake in the new one. He's a businessman who only cares about one thing: money. And to top it off he's a giant manchild about it.

^Notice how the entire page (this was a full page in the NY Times in 2007 I believe) seems great. Until you get to the last few paragraphs or so and it turns out that once he gained control of the project he started gutting anything expensive in order to save money instead of putting in the little bit of extra $$$ to ensure that it is the best building possible. There is another full page spread that I'm trying to find.

Yes the Willis is taller by roof but not by pinnacle,by the way where not chicagoans complaining how the Willis was taller than Tapi 101,and the Petronas Towers with its antennas turnabout is fair play, anyway 1wtc antenna will look much nicer once all the catwalk's are remove and the communication platform ring will be the game changer, and also the guyed wires.

I'm not quite sure how you figure that. I certainly don't see a majority liking the antenna, especially in its present form! The original design was much better, although not great. Compared to the rest of the building, it just looks cheap and not very well thought out.

I'm sorry if I went overboard with the antenna discussion although I think my post was reasonably expressed about a legitimate topic and wasn't the least bit rude. In any case, I'll refrain from bringing it up again and let events play out however they will in the interests of keeping a harmonious relationship with my fellow skyscraper enthusiasts. I can't wait until the cladding on both the base and the rest of the upper building is completed. I also think the slots in the upper portion of cladding add a very modern and sleek appearance so I'm glad we're finally reaching the end of this incredible project.

To be honest nobody is going to really care what it looks like except those of us who followed this from the start. And just to make it clear before I get attacked I have followed this from the start just didn't decide to post until the last year or so.

Durst was initially against the rebuilding of the new WTC, he especially campaigned against 1WTC's construction. No wonder he tries to cheapen the tower wherever it's possible.

It was originally posted here on 31 May 2012, so I assume it's not all that old. It shows the mast without the radome, which was announced around that time.

the info is all incorrect though, they show a roof at the top of the parapet and the observation levels are supposed to be 100 ft below where they indicated.
