Some of these comments on this forum are an absolute disgrace. This is shameful.

The spire argument horse hasn't just been beaten to death. It's been beaten to a bloody pulp, leaving only a bloodstain on the carpet

Poor horsie

So we don't have the radome because its too hard to maintain, as opposed to being too expensive?

Meaning Larry and the PA aren't cheap-ass mutha-luckas,
they're lazy-ass mutha-luckas.

Can't even believe NYGuy, over at SSP, is letting them fight over the spire. He's a pretty tough moderator when things get out of hand....

3) I said I found it funny because I did. I was trying to lighten the mood with a joke to keep people from flaming. We can have fun here too you know.

4) Every day, you'll see me give updates on the antenna, the mechanical cladding, and the base cladding, usually mornings and afternoons. I don't see how I'm too off topic with my posts, as that's something I try to avoid.

Try to have a little fun on the forum and get to know people better. It makes the experience much, much better.
My comment was not a personal attack at you. I quoted you cause I agreed with you. And I also agree about the encouraging. More photos are always welcome. The complete bottom part of my post was not a response to you at all. You are clearly one of the guys that do post interesting stuff. And yes, everyone here should have a little fun.

And no, NewYorkSkyline117, I'm not 'clearly troubled about something'. I love seeing the photos you post from your hometown. Thank you and keep them coming.

I'm just saying guys, let everyone have their opinions. Whether you agree with them or not. Anyway, enough about this. Let's move on.

I wish he would do what he has always done and put the smack down but his moderator judgment is clouded because of his opinions on the spire. People give him a hard time for being a dick but that's what I like about SSP. He usually cleans the shit up and they all end up over here.

What I would say about the spire/antenna, as a layperson who has only recently started following the construction of 1WTC, is that I definately am glad they went with Child's re-design of the tower, including the original proposed spire, because Liebeskind's version was pretty hideous in my opinion. However, the debacle with the spire having its radome stripped shows why politicians and bureaucrats should stay the hell out of architecture! I don't recall anyone altering Yamasaki's Twin Towers, but of course that was a different time.

Architects, just like artists, actors, and anyone in the creative realm, are architects for a reason, and I trust them more than political or corporate hacks who only care about cost-cutting. Not everyone may like the architect's vision, but that's what makes architecture cool. It's a shame Childs didn't fight more for his vision or at least try to find some middle ground. And I also blame the Port Authority for being way too overbearing. Last time I checked, the PA didn't have their own design firm. But at any rate, the tower doesn't look awful, even without the radome. Although the antenna wasn't meant to be seen, it could be worse. And once finished, I think it will look decent. But it would have for sure looked better with the radome as intended. But moral of the story..Keep government stooges and corporate hacks the hell out of the design business. Not everyone will like every part of an architect's vision, but I'd sure has hell rather have the intended-vision on display than a marked-down version by empty suits.

This one is a little bit old, from last september, so I am not sure if it has been posted before. Pretty good, it shows the entire skyline. Taken from Garret Mountain, Woodland Park, Passaic Co, NJ.

Go to the link if you want to see it in a bigger size.

That's a great place to see the skyline from. Used to take my wife up there all the time and have a picnic and enjoy the sights. The Twin Towers on one side, the ESB on the other.

Wow, midtown is impressive! Especially how much the ESB still sticks out!
It will be interesting to see this view when 1WTC is complete, and how visible the spire is. (hopefully more zoomed in)
My opinion on the spire/antenna: while it isn't as thick as the initial design, it IS part of the design, so it should count as a spire, and included in the official height.

Honestly guys, there is nothing wrong with the criticism the antennae is getting on here and SSP. First off, they are trying to pass this off as a spire, and it is half of the width of the original WTC antennae, which was considered an antennae. Second, this building should have been rebuilt at the very best quality possible, everything with the radome shows that they failed at this. While we shouldn't be whining, we should definitely be criticizing this if we care about NYC or the WTC.
