I can provide plenty of other links if you like. What you're referring to was reported in the NY Times in 1968. The article said even if what the reporter said about bedrock depths was true, the most difference it would make in the cost of construction is 7%, which isn't much at all, nonetheless enough to keep Canal Street through 20th Street strictly lowrise and highrise. It's all about zoning and transportation ease of access.

Not as uncommon as you may think. London has both The City and Canary Wharf, for example.

Sorry must have slipped my mind. Downtown Brooklyn is comparable to most American cities but when right next to downtown and midtown manhattan, it is dwarfed.

Eh, most people do. It and Long Island City are almost obsolete in the grand scheme of things really.

The base cladding looks great, I don't know what some of you are on about, Most SCC members would kill for that in their own city.

I agree, it looks like a gem in the sun. When it is finished it will be good visible from Vesey street.

I just checked it out. I've never seen it looking that good.

And it looks like the SE side's mechanical cladding is about 65% complete. It should finish up next week, and more progress on the NW side should be visible.
