Look at all the JUNK all over this building. UGH! You can't even make out the art deco design. At the very least, everything on the building below the top antenna should be nixed because right now, everything above the observation deck is a mess. Imagine if they did this to the Chrysler building????

Well, at least it's King Kong proof now...

I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing that bit of information with us. The GW Bridge is absolutely gorgeous because of the exposed steel beams ... it looks like lace and not so heavy. The decision, in case of the bridge, was felicitous!

I think when the Eiffel Tower first went up there was much outrage from the citizens of Paris because it was not covered in cladding. Now it is so beloved it is at the top of iconic structures in the world.

Still, I want the "thing" to look more like a "spire" rather than just an "antenna." Why? I don't know. I guess I would like it to be an integrated part of the architecture.

Woah, woah. You have a source for that? It was my understanding that plans for a restaurant were abandoned.

To answer your question, though, the base is 20-stories-high. I guess making the first office floor "Floor 6" would've just been confusing since it's so high up. No idea about the higher floors, though. Your impact-zone theory might be the answer.

What's even more amusing is that just a few months ago, LED lights actually were installed on the Empire State Building. Shows how uninformed and nonsensical that claim was.

They're still going to try to get a full 5-star restaurant in. From my understanding, there still should be small shops on these floors for food, beverages, T-Shirts, etc. The main observation deck will be 102, where ceiling heights are doubled.

To be honest, I'm really conflicted about whether I like the antenna or not. The old ESB looked really glamorous, yes, but the "hat" (that's what we'll call floors 86-102) that was added to the original design a few months later didn't really match with the dramatic spires on Chrysler, 70 Pine, 40 Wall, etc. True, it looked good, but it didn't look like it really fit in.

The antenna added in 1950 has several pros and cons. The antenna added a grunge feel to the building, I'll even go as far as to say Dystopian, that made it fit in well with the up-and-coming styles to be introduced especially in the Midtown skyline. It really pushes the skyline upwards, and its height really completes the building. At night, it makes the building look insanely tall. However, it's a little bit messy, and makes the building look as if it's poorly maintained. Its design doesn't match the building at all. However, it isn't as messy since they did some renovations and reduced the height 18 feet.

The image is correct, but the model displayed is not as detailed as I wished it would. The only thing that bothers me is the depiction of a nearly perfect alignment of the dishes and being all quite the same, when in reality the ring will house several types of dishes pointing to all directions.

Maybe years down the road but there will not be a full restaurant anytime in the near future.

I was a six-year-old kid back when the twins fell and I thought America was done for...
Back then it was just an attack that meant to me..but now with NYC's comeback, I can see clear that there is insurmountable history, NYC has..
Sticking the historical figure beside the re-birth of WTC complex, man, it gives me tingles to know things that were never meant can totally turn the bet over..
Really, NYC is the richest city, be it in terms of HISTORY, CULTURE, or FINANCE...
NYC is such an inspiration to the century...
GOD BLESS NYC
