Forgive me if this has be discussed, but I must have missed it... Is there no progress on the spire because (besides the wind slowing everything down) the south crane has to be able to reach over it in order to install part of the communications ring? If so, perhaps the southern half (or so) of the comm ring will be completed, then the rest of the spire installed, then the north crane removes the south crane and temporary platforms and finishes the comm ring? It will be interesting to see how the north crane gets remove. There doesn't seem to be much room for a smaller crane and/or derrick.

Speaking of missing posts, SSC has a major annoyance: It has the "go to first new post" icon, but it actually won't go back more than about three days. (Sometimes I'm too busy during the week to come here, but don't want to miss anything, and it's a pain figuring out where I left off in a busy thread.) Is there any way to get it to always go to the first unread post, no matter how old it may be? I thought the "Default Thread Age Cut Off" option might fix it, but it doesn't.

If you are subscribed to this thread via "instant email updates", just save that email and don't visit the thread. That single email link will automatically direct you to your first "unread" post. What messes this up is if you visit the thread by not using the email that ssc sent. Then on your next visit no matter if you use the email or type in ssc in the address bar, it will take you to the first post that has been made since your last visit.
What I do is force myself to stay away until I am ready or have the time to "catch up" and then use the link in the original email that ssc sent me.

I was wondering if there was a first unread option as well. I'm sure it is in the bb code somewhere but I'm not sure if there is a button for it anywhere.

Yes you understand the logistics, and then a derrick will disassemeble crane like they did on twr 4.

Yeah...go cry about it on a Columbia thread.

I'm not even American, I'm from Scotland. But I certainly wouldn't think of clicking on any thread regarding a specific city and moan to them to stop being proud of their city.

Is a permanent maintaining crane still planned to be integrated on the roof?

Seriously, I live in Brooklyn, its VERY New York. Manhattan isn't even the most populous. Hell Brooklyn and Queens would be the 4th and 5th largest cities in the USA. People expect Brooklyn to surpass Chicago in population in 8-10 years!

Cities in US by population:
New York City 8,244,910*
Los Angeles: 3,819,702
Chicago: 2,707,120
Brooklyn (borough): 2,565,635
Queens (borough): 2,272,771
Houston: 2,145,146
Manhattan (borough): 1,619,090
Philadelphia: 1,536,471

A JAL Boeing 777-300 crossing in front of the rising One World Trade Center on short final to JFK after a long journey from Tokyo Narita. The southern part of Queens where JFK is located and Lower Manhattan are not nearly as close to each other as this image indicated.

Actually downtown Brooklyn all the way up to park slope is the new trendy place to live and more and more people who used to live Manhattan are moving up there, anyway the next couple are days are going to be nice with light wind conditions, hopefully finally some progress can be made to the completion of this building.
