I know it's been debated a million times, but the more we see of the antenna, the more clear it is that this should not be counted towards the official height.

Question: when is the official height going to be decided anyway?

At MOST mid-2014, and that would take some delays...

It will defiantly 100% be open by late 2014

Most likely early 2014, but a chance of late 2013 aswell

The more we see this post the more clear it is that this post is a dead horse that has been beaten beyond recognition. Also after seeing the pinnacle of the spire, I disagree.

Looking at KenfromJersey's pic below I reckon the communication ring below the mast should have an outside observation deck on top. OK I know they say radiation from equipment would be a problem but tourists spend a short time up there. It could be a raised circular platform above the communications ring and isolated and shielded from the ring and mast. Deck and vendor WTC staff would work in the indoor Observation floor below, much like the old WTC. I have visited many observation decks around the world and recall the outside rooftop WTC deck as the most spectacular. A must see experience gone, but it doesn't need to be now....

Two things occur to me as this building nears completion: first, it seems that its true impact on the skyline is only really evident now, as the glass reaches the top (and bottom). Maybe because the long construction made people used to seeing it as a vertical construction site, but now, almost suddenly, it's an actual building.
Second, the delays at least let us become familiar with the absence of the originals, nearly to the point that 1WTC can be viewed in its own right instead of just a replacement for what was lost.

God! I ever thought the top of ring was 417 meters.

Can't these overhang like things(where we can see some people standing) be turned into open observation decks?

I have already declared the official height.

Oh, perhaps you were referring to the CTBUH architectural height?

Remember, there is no such thing as an official height because there is no authoritative body. There is merely a club of people that is quoted frequently on the news because the news has to quote someone. But due to politicization of CTBUH ranking decisions, their opinion is certainly no more accurate or respectable then any other opinion. Indeed, there are countless more objective individuals.

No way, first, these are for workers only, and second, most of them if not all are temporary and will go away when the spire is finished.

Btw, looking at the massive beacon, it should definately be counted in the total height imo.

they should leave the tridents like steel above the entrance gap visible.
that would give it an extra touch

1400 ft. is a common number, but I believe it's actually 1,401 or 1,402 ft.

I want so bad to believe the building is beautiful because of what it stands for, and it does have it's unique qualities. However.....on SO many levels, I think the design of the building is just flat out ugly and dull and could have been so much more. Relating to your comments, I hate the way it's so "base" heavy and and and at some angles, almost looks like an elongated glass pyramid.

The building has a look of a somewhat forbidding fortress, both the base and the tower. It is a severe look. It is not a "friendly" look. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. It is OK, I suppose.
