Have either of you actually seen it in person? If you didn't I think you should you'll most likely change your mind about how it's such an "ugly" skyscraper. It's actually gorgeous especially on a nice sunny day...

Yeah, like 20 times a day, every day, every night, since inception. Still looks a bit like a fortress to me. This is the view from my window (taken 10 minutes ago). Not that I am complaining...

Jersey City.

I'll post some pics at sunset, that's when the reflections off the tower are very nice.

That would be awesome. Sunsets are the most beautiful part of the day

Btw, I'm back so I updated my diagram, based on the most recent photos. The current pinnacle height of the building is 477 meters or 1565 feet (if you measure it from the lowest entrance it's 479 meters or 1571 feet). I won't give figures for the ring though because I don't have an official diagram or plan of it but from what I've seen on photos it looks like one third of it is assembled

Roof height used below

The building sits along the West Side Highway, which makes it vulnerable. That's why the support columns (and lobby) are encased in concrete. It's designed to withstand blasts from outside and inside. Use your imagination.

It's the reality of the world we live in. As for the tippy top, it is so festooned with temporary platforms right now, that it's difficult to envision the final product.

This looks stunning, welcoming and nothing like "a bunker with a spike on top to make it look tall" to me:

Deck and vendor WTC staff would work in the indoor Observation floor below, much like the old WTC. I have visited many observation decks around the world and recall the outside rooftop WTC deck as the most spectacular. A must see experience gone, but it doesn't need to be now....
Yes, I've always thought that too. I have no idea on how harmful those radiations could be, because there is not only tourists, but I guess there would be some staff going regularly up there also. But if the radiations issue could be solved, an outdoor observation deck above the rings would have been amazing indeed.

1 wtc is quite possibly going to be the number one terrorist target in the world ,never quite understood people when they complain about 1 wtc alternate design changes as showing fear? no it is necessary security measures ,and commend sense,i don't know i about you but i never want to see an other 9/11 again. PS : people this is no macho game this is thousands of people lives at stake

This is most probably the best and truest post on this forum, I completely agree with you. Security and safety is in my opinion by far the most important aspect of a building. In my opinion all post 9/11 skyscrapers should be made to 1WTC's standard

I'd agree that taken out of context on it's own, the building doesn't "wow" you with its form like Shangahi Tower or overwhelm with its height like Burj and so many other new projects do.

But no design stands alone in a vacuum. I feel like its shape, proportions and material are just right in context with lower Manhattan. As the "peak" of an urban mountain, I think it creates a much more elegant skyline than the original WTC's did, as much as we grew to love them for soaring, rectangular forms.

This is why for me NYC will always stand alone. I feel the same way about One57...the way it sits in context with the such a diverse urban environment gives me goosebumps.

My opinion on the WTC is that the actual structure itself is amazing. I think it looks amazing how it literally reflects.

However the base is just average, nothing to WOW about for the base IMO

Now as for the 'spire' thats just something that needs to be improved on sometime soon...

But the spire is not what makes the tower, you see the structure it self, and its amazing I dont see why people hate it! its the only think like it. Where else do you see a giant 1,776 foot mirror?
