I agree with that sentiment too. The base does look like a bunker and the rest of the tower is merely average. And yes, I've seen it in person and it feels like a bunker to me. The tower isn't bad, but the simple glass form isn't unique or especially inspiring. I would have preferred something more than the standard glass box. Granted, this is just a personal opinion and many people rightfully love this tower.
I was addressing the statement in which was made of the tower "looking like a forbidding fortress", in which then i made my retort of the security necessaries of why 1 WTC appearance is the way that it is ,and in further more addressing past comments that where made of 1 wtc designs changes,as quote on quote " being done by fear". and so as i address on to you the quote that you made. " The base does look like a bunker" is because 1 WTC base is a bunker it's and another security measure to prevent and other car bombing like the one that happen in 1993,or a similar attack.

The mechanical plenums will be indeed lighted, though it will be very uniform and a bit intense.

I always thought that 1WTC has a very good design but the higher the cladding gets and the more angles of view I see, the more I'm beginning to think that this building is one of the greatest masterpieces of architecture of all times

Does anyone know if the base of One WTC will be lit up once completed, and if so will it be lit from interior lighting or exterior?

LEDs are integrated into the base and will lit at night. Probably white excluding occasions, like the spire.

Is it just me or, again, there's a big discrepancy between renders, samples, and the final product? Weren't the podium glass panels supposed to be angled instead of sitting flush with one another?

I'm obviously referring to these examples:

Unless the panel fixtures are actually moveable hinges, that would certainly explain it…

I think they are able to be opened and closed so angled would be about half way open....or half way closed. Depends on how you look at it

They are probably just closed while construction goes on around it, I'm sure they will extend when the buildings complete.

So 1 WTC's spire/mast won't be a part of Durst's LED lightshow (4 Times Square and BoFA Tower)? That's rather surprising for someone like Durst, if that is in fact the case. But didn't he say it would play off his other two towers? I'm confused...

You're right! I changed it.

This tower has exceeded ALL expectations. stunningly beautiful. dare I say, the most beautiful skyscraper of this century? Of the past 75 years? Only tragedy is the spire. It's god awful. Although it has a certain Richard Rodgers industrialist look to it which contrasts nicely with the smooth angles of the tower, so the more I think about it it'll work well. A reflection of new yorks gritty side perhaps. Reminds me of the royal courts of justice in the UK- a perfect building but for a column/pillar inside that is deliberately skewed, so as to make the building not perfect enough to challenge divine creation (or something like that)- maybe the spire on this building is a bit like the RCJ's pillar? or maybe it's just commercially driven value engineering... Haha I think I know which.
