I don't understand, 1WTC will be slightly smaller. Willis has more floor space, has a bigger footprint and is taller

Sears Tower is hideous though it looks like a bunch of One Liberty Plazas stuck together with a few antennas, so I don't care about it being bigger the WTC is still far more superior in my opinion.

It wont be bigger at all. The antenna will more than likely not count and even so a stick doesn't make a building look much bigger.

To answer the larger question, Sears is larger at 4.47 million square feet, while 1WTC has only 3.5 million. If 1WTC had as many actual floors as Sears, they'd be roughly the same size.

And thanks, NYCrulz and Kanto.

To elaborate, here's how they compare:

Sears' base is 225'x225'. This means that until the first setback (50th floor), there's 50,625 square feet per floor, and 2,531,250 square feet total. From the first setback to the second (66th floor), there's 16 floors of 39,375 square feet per floor, for a total of 630,000 square feet in that section. In the third section (67th-90th floors), floors are 28,125 square feet, totaling 675,000 square feet. The final section reaching all the way up (108 floors), floors are 11,250 square feet, totaling 202,500 square feet. Add all the sections up, and you'll get 4.04 million square feet. Add in basement floors, and you'll account for the error.

With 1WTC, The floors in the base are 40,000 square feet a piece, with 200 foot sides. In other words, at the base, Sears is 1.265 times larger by area. However, the top of 1WTC is exactly half the base's, putting it at 20,000 square feet. Therefore, the top of 1WTC is 1.778 times larger than the top of Sears. To be honest, which one looks larger can go either way because of their difference in shape and the way one views them. I figured I'd post the specs just to give you guys a good idea of the size difference.

I'm sure the Port Authority will "persuade" the CTBUH to make the mast count as a spire. Even if they don't count it, it will still be structurally taller than Willis Tower. The height itself is there whether it is counted officially or not so it will be taller. Willis Tower will always have the highest occupied floor, highest roof though. This is being built with the building, it should count, it was part of the initial design despite the removal of the radome. Buildings like the original North Tower, Sears Tower, etc all added their masts later on so of course they normally wouldn't count but it doesn't mean the height isn't physically there because it is.

1 wtc beacon is clearly an architecturally element now,i would bet my life that the mast will count , as for StrongIsland , sorry i like your comments and you seem to be a cool guy but your comment on the sears tower being hideous , that's solely your opinion!

It still wont look bigger. The petronas towers are 'taller' than the sears and yet they look tiny in comparison.

The Sears or "Willis" Tower is Fugly. It may be taller by roof height, but seriously, 1WTC looks and IS way better. Have any of you ever seen a close up view of the Sears tower's top floors? Looks like it's been through a mudstorm. The exposed steel columns of 1WTC is a better look LOL.

In my opinion, Sears is a beautiful tower, and one of my favorites in the world. I find its shape, color, location, and presence overwhelmingly attractive. Don't get me wrong, I like 1WTC a lot, but in my opinion Sears is better.

They are just different. Different in shape, in style. Sears is classical tower, 1WTC is modern tower. We can't compare them.

Fair enough. I will admit, though, that Sears Tower is impressively tall. BUT I can't wait to see 1WTC in a week and a half!
