1350 ft to the spire. To the roof it's still taller than the ESB at 1270 ft.

Does this sound accurate?
I think the Twins were 210x210 ft., but I'm not positive. 1WTC is indeed 200x200 ft.

Wikipedia's wrong here. The last vertical parapet beam was placed July 31, 2012, and if I recall correctly the first was July 13th .

Actually the new One World Trade Center has the same size base as the World Trade Center Twins and taller by roof and antenna. It's just that it gets smaller to the top, not every skyscraper has to be one big tall box.

Looks like the left-hand side support of the external elevator is coming down, any idea why they would take down this one after only just putting back up the right-hand side support?

That was back when everyone was in the dark for like a week on whether we were at floor 105, halfway up the parapet, or completely done. You and I had just joined, haha. When we found out it was actually topped out, there were like 10 pages full of bananas and nightclub emoticons. Good times!

I agree with you. But I guess you can blame it on them wanting to keep the whole 1,368' figure symbolism from the original 1 WTC. However only the parapet goes to 1,368' and the roof is 1,334' 8", which is a stupid number. If anything they should have went a little taller with the roof. 2 WTC will not be the exact height of the original 2 WTC so they should have went higher with 1 WTC. It is kind of like the whole Petronas Towers situation where the spires are what topped the Sears Tower. Also note that even without the spires the Petronas were not even taller than the Twin Towers to the roof so the original Towers were taller than them. I just wish buildings could be built with rooftops that high instead of using a spire to get there. In that case I would agree with Kanto there.

Old base was 212' to the widest point, which was at the base. New base is 205'.

I've seen the 205' figure for 1WTC as well. I had always thought it was 205', but most recent sources have it at 200.

However, I've never seen the 212' figure. Are you sure? I almost always see 210', and when I don't, it's someone on here who thinks it's 200' for some reason.

I also remember when they were adding more steel for the sprie structure, everyone was freaking out thinking that they were adding more floors then planned! sadly that was not the case, but still good times

Haha, are you talking about the "spandrel beams"? I remember when you couldn't visit the thread without seeing that term everywhere.

Sorry if this info was provided on this thread and I missed it, but is the inauguration already scheduled?

Looks like it's going to be finished before 2013 ends.
