Off topic, but that yellow/black building is one of the ugliest skyscrapers I have ever seen. I can't believe it was ever approved. Hideous!

That's the William Beaver House. And I agree, it's hideous. They could have chosen a much MUCH better cladding.

Hopefully. Piece #12 has been sitting on the platform since Valentines Day! I saw a post which said, though, that Mast installation won't continue until the Communication Ring is complete.

The uncovered antenna is ugly. And the base cladding clashes with the tower's windows. It's like it's wearing plaid pants with a striped shirt. To say nothing of the poor decision to square off the base corners. Sorry have to call it as I see it. The compromises to such a nationally-important building have been very disappointing.

This is one of the first pics that effectively shows what the base cladding is really supposed to look like even with the fins closed. The base is to match the aluminum edges of the triangles rising to the top of the tower. Once the fins are opened it will look even better. I'm glad they didn't try to match the office floors glass. It gives the tower a much more elegant and unique look. It's going to look great. Love it!

While I certainly agree that it gives a unique look, I don't see how you can even begin to call it elegant! To me, it looks like a kid was playing with building blocks and stacked to from different sets on top of each other. The 2 sections certainly look like completely different buildings. Of course they really are, since one was designed by architect and one was designed by NYPD!

Agreed. The base looks pretty good already and pictures definitely don't do it justice as with the rest of the tower. I like how sometimes it looks blue like the office cladding and other times it looks like its own...can't wait for the fins to open and for it to be illuminated

I wrote that but it was just a guess.

I thought that because of the fact that the 3 rings were begun at the opposite side of the cranes as you can see on this pic:

You really think the NYPD designed the base cladding? NO! SOM did.

The key part of "elegant" is once the fins are open and revealing the matching material beneath. My point being I can effectively visualize what they where going for for the first time, picture it with the fins open and visualize what the final product will look like.

Many buildings that feature podiums do it this way (different materials and color). The Shanghai World Financial Center is a good example but I think 1 WTC will pull it off better.

Disagree, SWFC base looks better than theis algae Green base, just my opinion, these fins everyones talking about, I'll have to judge that after I see it, but as the 1 forumer said,, looks like a kid was playing with green block, ran out, and finished with blue, then put a mangled knife on top that ran through the garbage didposal 1 too many times,, but who the hell am I too judge, I'm just 1 person, everybody will have their own opinion, and I respect yours. I just think you pulled the wrong example with SWFC.. I think it's base is great looking.

Face it. Without the cladding, the "spire" looks like a refinery cracking tower. And there is not enough contrast between the base and main tower cladding. Maybe the fins will help, but I doubt it.

With the spire exposed with no radome on 1 WTC, i think keeping the x brace industrial look for WTC 3 would be more fitting now.

I guess you'll have to wait until it's done before you can visualize what it will look like. I don't have too... I see it already but that's me. BTW, there is no green in it at all. That's just not the right color balance in some of the photography caused by the reflection which will be mostly eliminated once the fins are open.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying the facade/base glass on 1 WTC is green/blue. Just shows the level of ignorance in some people. It's reflective glass for crying out loud, not blue, green, red or Pink. Reflective. Glass....
