I think all that's left is segment 15 as well as segment 16 and the beacon (attached). I'm pretty sure we're at 1,666 feet now, not 1,626. Three 40' segments would make 1,786', just 9 feet short of the pinnacle.

We still need section 14 to go in place, we are still at 1626'.

I thought I saw post just a day or two ago saying that it'd been placed. I know it was on the platform a few days ago...

In the last of Ken's Photos, piece #14 was shown to be lifted as if it was going to be placed on it's location, but then, after pictures show it disappeared and was never put on the rest of the mast. I can't see any of it on the earthcams either, I would assume they placed it on the opposite side.

Hey if you really want this thing to be the tallest, just build a time machine, go back, and convince the founding fathers to postpone the whole revolution thing for a couple of years

Apple-calypse now! New York City plays starring role in new Tom Cruise sci-fi epic 'Oblivion'

Though alien invasion leaves Earth in ruins, eagle-eyed moviegoers can spot a fully completed Freedom Tower in the background

Even in 2077, after an alien invasion has left the Earth in ruins, New York City will apparently still be the center of the universe.
The Big Apple gets some major screen time alongside Tom Cruise in the sci-fi epic, “Oblivion,” which opens Friday. A recurring flashback is set atop the Empire State Building — and eagle-eyed movie-goers will spy a fully completed Freedom Tower in the background.

“That was something I was really excited about: New Yorkers are going to get to see the finished Freedom Tower for the first time in this film,” says “Oblivion” writer and director Joseph Kosinski, who moved to the city in the ’90s to attend Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture.
“Not only did it make sense for the film, but I was there on September 11th. I was standing on the corner of Chambers and West Broadway. I saw the Twin Towers come down right in front of me, and to be able to rebuild — albeit virtually — in this film for me it was really gratifying.”

Is WTC 2 and 3 completed as well? I would IMAGINE that they're complete by 2077.

I already know how to make a time machine!

Step one: Collect necessary parts.

Step two: Build a time machine.

Hey guys...driving north on the NJ Turnpike today I could see the WTC clear as day from 30 miles out (driving distance) in great detail. I'm wondering how easily it will be seen on the horizon from 38 miles (as the crow flies) on a clear day from the Robert Moses Bridge. NJ is much hillier than Long Island, so not really sure. I know some people take pictures then zoom in and the buildings appear way bigger than they would to the naked eye. I guess my question is, will I be able to see the WTC today with my naked eyes assuming clear conditions if I drove on the Robert Moses Bridge? And at night when it's completed, will the beacon be visible from the same distance?

P.S. before someone says "I don't know...try it and post a pic if you can", Robert Moses is still closed due to Sandy repairs

No offense, but coming from SC, you have no idea what a real major city is like. "Just cause y'all got a big city"...no. It's more than that. It's the psychology of it. People who grew up within 50 miles of either borough grew up constantly seeing the NYC skyline, and let me tell you many of us still get chills even after seeing it for the 5 millionth time. It's just a rush you can't describe. On the train ride into the city it might only be an hour away but I still eagerly wait for the exact second the iconic buildings are visible. Being a New Yorker is like being on a winning team. You grow up in the shadows of the greatest, most well-known city on earth. You take it for granted early on, but when you have a moment to sit as you get older and take life in, you begin to realize that you live in an AMAZING area that many people would only dream of being in the NYC vicinity (or in it).

For those who don't get it (kind of like you) and think "big whoop, it's just a big city" in a literal sense, you clearly haven't lived in the area. NYC to me growing up on LI was always like our big brother that always made us proud flexing its muscles to the rest of the world. It acts as a gate to enter or leave where I'm from. You can't go anywhere far without going through the city. There is just nothing like the quick pace, the raw excitement, the high, the adrenaline, and knowing the significance of the skyline you are looking at. I don't mean this in an insulting way, but this is something people from SC would never come close to understanding. That's why it's called a New York state of mind .

Construction on the roof of the Freedom Tower is more similar to the mast from the fact that it will keep stretching.
