Like I said, it is not easy to spot it right away because it appears somewhat small, and you're probably darting your eyes so quickly to look for it that you're just looking right over it! Patience (and safety of course first) haha

EDIT: Here's a picture of the skyline from the Fire Island Lighthouse back in 2009

There are times I think I see the WTC and the ESB, but then I second guess myself and think "must be a tree or some distant mast of a ship". I wish the bridge had a place to pull over and stop along with those big metal viewers. You would probably see the WTC and ESB easily on most days both day and night in that case. I know it would never happen but I wish LI built some 1,000 ft tower or new lighthouse that gives you an entire panoramic view of the skyline totally uninterrupted. It would be breathtaking and I bet you could even make out some bridges. You could easily market the tower as "the best NYC view on Long Island. I always hear you can see the WTC from the LIE in Melville and in certain tall office buildings in Melville clear as day (only 30 miles by car probably 28 on a straight line) but never knew where specifically or saw proof.

Also I have wondered about Stony Brook University Hospital from the roof (48 miles from WTC on straight line), and certain spots in the Greenlawn/Northport area on the north shore where it's very hilly like North Shore LIJ Huntington Hospital (33 miles on straight line). The only thing that sucks is due to crazy security today none of these places will probably let you to the roof.

Yes, people have seen it from the Stony Brook Medical Center. Here is what it look like from the border of Morristown-Randolph NJ out in Morris County. About 28 miles like you said. So this is what 30 miles appears as, and it's very clear from this spot whether it's night, or day. (I took this back in February I think)

So true lol...have a friend in Yonkers and he is literally 5 minutes from the Bronx border and 15-20 min from Manhattan. From SI it will take 1 hour 30 min to get to the same spot. SI just is terrible accessibility wise...you need to take a 30 minute ferry ride then hop on a 15-20 minute subway, and may have to walk another 10 minutes or so to get where you need. By the time you get there it's about 1 hour plus any way you split it. Even the "express"buses from SI get in midtown in about an hour plus. Even 50 miles out on LI you can get to Penn Station in 1 hour flat on an express train while SI is what 10 miles from Manhattan if that? Unless you are near the ferry, SI is essentially Nassau County with a NYC label.

You can get to Midtown Manhattan faster via LIRR 50 miles away in Ronkonkoma and beat someone who lives in SI 15 minutes from the Verazzano! Crazy. Yonkers is much more built up than many parts of SI and is connected. Hell, most of LI is more connected to NYC than SI! Many people outside the area don't realize this.

Not really, like I said, I do most of my shopping and dining in my own neighborhood. I like going into the city, but I try to avoid it when possible. I'm an introvert (INTJ) mixed with Asperger Syndrome, can't handle the crowds of people for too long, otherwise my brain starts to shutdown. Besides, we like supporting our local Park Slope businesses.

I can't stand being around large groups of people, and yet I live in the most populous city in the country. Funny how that works, eh?

Oh man, it is so rare to witness such a high quality supertall going up such as this one. The new WTC is unrivaled quality-wise. :-)

I can't wait to go to the FI lighthouse to get pix of the WTC...just called them today. Robert Moses is still closed but I'm sure it's a great view right now...it sucks knowing the greatest skyline in the world is visible from your area but the places are closed or unauthorized -___-

Most people here on SSC copy and paste the same pictures from SSP. Is that allowed?
That is what I can see mostly happening.

Nothing wrong with C&P, as long as you credit them. It's happening the other way to: SSC --> SSP (f.e. forumers posting their own pics, but are only members of SSC).

Τhis ANTENNA is a frigging joke....

if they count it as an intergral part of the buildings architecture and it will count at the buildings total height, then the organization is a damn JOKE.

This thing is disgraceful on top of such an iconic building.

And yeah I am going to bitch about it... because it is absurd that this ... this... pogo stick... is going to be considered a mast...

Don't get my blood boiling kanto!

Seriously, personally I've been disappointed without the Radome but as it nears completion it is surprising me asthetically.
