Who cares if they include it or not. Are you going to loose sleep if they don't or if they do? Whether its 1368 feet or 1776 feet does it really matter? Hopefully they don't count it so other buildings like 432 park avenue get more well known. Like everyone is stressing over whether they count it or not..the building will be the same whether they count it or not.. just my 2 cents

I saw tonight a documentary on the future "green cities", the first episode was about NYC and you can see at 6'34 a video render of the whole complex (talking about creating islands to reduce the impact of an eventual big wave during a storm, but that's the WTC complex which is important for us).
Caution: French language! (available in german too I think)

(There's also some other visually-interesting things)

Maybe someday they'll have the funding and technology to encase that hideous thing without ruining it's functionality.

For the folks that have no idea what an "antenna" actually is....

an•ten•na (ænˈtɛn ə)

n., pl. -ten•nas for 1, -ten•nae (-ˈtɛn i)
for 2.
1. a conductor by which electromagnetic waves are sent out or received, consisting commonly of a wire or set of wires often attached to metal rods; aerial.
2. one of the jointed, movable sensory appendages occurring in pairs on the heads of insects and most other arthropods.
3. a means or sense of perception.

As you can see, the mast/spire of 1WTC will not have anything at the top to transmit or receive any type of electromagnetic waves. All that will be sent to the top, is wiring to power the beacon light. Also, the last time I looked at the tower, it wasn't an insect
Hope this helps with all the confusion

Wow. So now it's not a functional antenna anymore? What a bombshell, hot off the presses! Thanks for the info, guy!

And all this time I thought the whole point of the spire change was to construct a functional antenna atop One WTC. I guess I was wrong. That's my fault for going by every single thing I've ever read about this building, when I should have just checked with you to get the REAL story. If you get a chance, please inform the NY Port Authority, every media organization, and the entire global internet of this breaking news you've received, because the rest of the world still thinks it will be a functional broadcast antenna.

So if you add a spire to a building shortly after its completion it won't be counted as a spire, but since this mast is being built while the tower is still u/c it can be counted;
It will not have anything at the top to transmit or receive any type of electromagnetic waves;

I really love this tower, but this is basically 408 feet of steel with no purpose...

2Wtc is also my favorite,, and as for Black, I think it looks cool, only because we've been looking at Blue for 5 years,, then you get the Chicago ppl, sayin NY is trying to make their tallest like Chicago's.. I think pink would even look cool to look at just for a day or too. Then we'd get post's Pink is the way we shoulda wen't for breast Cancer. As for the Chicago Ny debate, I love both of them, their both in the USA and have totally different styles. Thats fine. Houston and Dallas with their Neon outlines of their scrapers.. I like all the different styles city to city,, shows a bit about history. Also an ? I've been wondering for years are Gargoyles used in the states anymore.. Used to be so scared of those things as a kid.

I don't know what will be the end result but I imagine the way this spire is being constructed with slots and small platforms along its length may get assorted attached antennas anywhere below the light pinnacle. Although this idea sounds messy look at the ESB mast and antenna. A shocker close up from the observation deck but all the garbage is not so obvious from the street or further away. Many companies may rent space on this mast as it will be a wonderful place to transmit or boost from.

....no, you are not. For fear of getting shot down, it's beginning to look out of proportion to the rest of the building...and there's quite a bit more to go yet. But that 1776' hieght has to be acheived...

I completely agree with you. The antenna is waaaay to tall. In my opinion they should have made the building itself taller and made the antenna only as tall as it is necessary for efficient transmission.

As to whether it'll be counted or not, I dunno how CTBUH will decide but in my opinion it would he a huge mistake to count it. It would be a huge humiliation for 1WTC to be among the greatest cheaters in history (seriously, only the Federation Tower in Moscow is a bigger cheater. A smaller height achieved honorably is better than a taller height achieved by cheating.

And at the end, I'd also say that 1WTC doesn't deserve to be the country's tallest, just as it doesn't deserve to be the city's tallest because it is only as tall as the North Tower was. Skyscrapers should go higher and higher and not stay where they were 40 years ago. If the PA wanted to have the tallest building they should have built it taller. But no, they didn't bother, they just gave the building a cheating stick. That's why I hope this move will backfire at them and the building will be only 417 meters tall.
