It is a shame that for one of the few times the greatest city in the world has settled for mediocrity (spire) it is on what is arguable their most significant tower since the ESB.

I still have a feeling eventually something will be done to improve the spire....maybe some type of open lattice perhaps?

If the CTBUH doesn't rule it an element, then I could see that happening. If it does, then the bare mast stays.

I really hope this is ruled an antenna. Its just too bare to be a spire. If they rule the beacon portion as part of the architecture, then thats the only part of the antenna that should be ruled as such.

When I drive over the bridge I really haven't seen anything that would make me say "ok THERE it is...that's no doubt the WTC". I see a few very distant objects I thought I saw the WTC but it was literally like half an inch tall and about as half as thin as a pencil. I doubt that was it, because it's pretty thick and the shape should make it obvious it's the WTC. I wish someone would show me on google earth (not adept at it) how exactly the WTC looks right now from the robert moses bridge 38 miles away elevated 100-170 ft to the naked eye. It's really frustrating me...I've been trying for so long to no avail.
Lol why not, and if you're driving and trying to look for a tower from 40 miles away, it's pretty difficult. Maybe you can't even see it and it's just a rumor (from the bridge). Ill tell you what, go to the Fire Island lighthouse and see the view from there, you can 100% see it from there because I've seen pics. Get an idea of what it looks like from that far so you know what to expect from the view

New crane pieces have arrived, so they are going to extend the top crane so that it can lift the last mast pieces..

It will be very interesting to see how they insert these.

The Brooklyn Bridge live Earthcam video cam is currently aimed at the top of 1WTC, so maybe we can see it happen in real time:

I'm guessing they're going have to temporary remove the boom and cab of the Mast crane.
