....in Dubai,it seems that some people have forgotten (it was a big scandal at the time)they used"slaves".
In China, the workers get paid something around $200....a month!!
We live in a civilized nation:how can we compete?

As One World Trade Center rises, will its offices also fill up?

by Sabri Ben-Achour
Marketplace for Monday, April 29, 2013

"High winds scrapped the crowning of One World Trade Center today. The final touches on the spire will eventually make it the tallest building in the western hemisphere. The skyscraper already towers over all other Manhattan buildings, but it stands out for another reason, too.

“This is a project that wasn’t based on real estate fundamentals,” says Robert Beauregard, professor of urban planning at Columbia. "It wasn’t based on market analysis, supply and demand. It was a politically driven project.” ..."

...“Fifty, 55 percent committed tenants is about what we expected,” says Michael Shenot, a managing director at real estate firm Jones Lang Lasalle who’s been advising the Port Authority on the development of One World Trade Center.

“It has been a bit of a challenge,” he says, “but more so because of the recession and the financial melt down than tenant concerns.”

He says there’s plenty of time to fill up the rest of One World Trade Center, which doesn’t open for another two years. "...

Another photo, with 4 WTC.... which is far superior.

Hopefully it tops-out today although my gut says tomorrow; the PA loves a good photo op & cloudy skies will not suffice.

Ironmike, an ironworker on 1 WTC is saying the mast will be installed on May 8. So I assume they would just lift the beacon section and leave it on the platform until May 8?

The Earthcam is pointing at the ground again, last time this happened was when they raised the crane higher, anyone reckon they're raising the crane again ready for beacon lift?

The weather will suffice for placing the beacon today. It's overcast, but doesn't seem to be raining.

In the meantime, thought I'd update on base cladding and regular cladding progress. Base cladding on the East facade is progressing nicely and about 25% done. The SW facade of the building's main frame is almost completely clad now. The building looks very close to complete from that angle.

The observation deck isn't supposed to open till early 2015. I'm sure some offices will open next year though. Kinda depressing though.

Oooo! There's a double-lined hook extending down to the ground. I wonder what they're about to pick up?!?!

Well....nevermind. the cranes are back to their typical resting position. It'll probably be another 6 months before they lift it, then an additional 6 before it's attached.

Never seen anything take so damn long before.
