That scene will look absolutely breathtaking and incredible once all the trees are fully grown with bright fresh green coats of leaves.

Why are they taking so long to decide? It should be a simple matter. They should just make a decision which is consistent with other decisions they have made about other towers with similar sorts of masts.

Every September 11th, they designed the buildings in a position that such a way that when it is the time the planes hit the towers, the light will shine directly on the memorial

I can understand the impatience. But it's probably for the same reason film critics generally refrain from reviewing movies that are still in editing and post-production.

The design of the spire has already changed once. What sort of mast it turns out to be is still not absolutely certain, and even the final official height is not a given until construction is complete. It won't necessarily happen in this case, but developers have been known to come up with last-minute surprises and design changes. Until the building is completed it makes little sense for the CTBUH to quantify and critique it.

According to the WTC Progress Facebook page, the lift date is uncertain.

We are excited that you are excited about the hoisting of the final section of spire to the top of One WTC, but contrary to various reports it has not happened yet. We will let you know when it is ready to go.

If it's true they have delayed the lift until the 8th, then it must be for some reason other than the weather. No one knows what the winds will be like that far out in time, but it's almost certain the next few days will be near perfect:

Today Sunny, with a high near 69. East wind 7 to 10 mph.

Thursday Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Northeast wind around 10 mph.

Saturday Sunny, with a high near 67.

Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.

Yesterday the sustained winds were never reported to be over 10mph (in Central Park) by the NWS. Of course these wind speed reports/forecasts are for near the ground and don't include gusts (unless the gusts will be significant). Winds will be stronger 1300+ feet up.

I say forget the wind and other excuses:

Are they going to paint the spire white or leave it that battleship grey color? The battleship grey is perhaps fitting as the "spire" in its current form is reminiscent of the superstructure of a WWI battleship.

Looks to me like they have some crane sections on the roof to crane rise before the top of the Spire is lifted...maybe. Just looking at live webcam but really who knows what's live ? When I look at different camera angles the crane booms are in different positions. Now gone 11pm here so I miss out again...bedtime!

Not to get too picky redbaron 012, but a more accurate quote of Burnham would be: "Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood...Make big plans, aim high in hope and work."

I'm just mentioning this because to me there's a not-so subtle distinction between "stir men's blood" and "stir the blood". "Stir the blood" is too prosaic and brings to mind the image of a large vat and a man (or woman) in a butcher's apron holding a ladle.
