So if isn't the weather that's causing the delay for the top out, then what is?

Unless they build 2WTC and 3WTC as planned, I will always consider the Twins more flattering to the skyline. Their sheer size made them worthy of admiration, and this new tower looks puny in comparison.

The notion that there is still something missing? Relax, give it time!

Nah, I don't even mind the slow speed, I can hardly catch up with all these supertalls and skyscrapers u/c worldwide. I only wanted to mention that there is an - unintended - race at the moment: at first 1WTC was the taller one, then ST, then 1WTC again, now ST again, soon 1WTC again, then later ST again.... Both are awesome towers

Does anyone have a timescale as to when more of the memorial plaza will be opened up?(around the museum area) And around the bases of towers 1 and 4?

I agree. I know it sounds crazy but losing the 2 original towers was like losing a good friend or family member. I was only 11 on 9/11 and people near me were watching the smoke plumes from 40 miles away on Fire Island. Such a terrible and life-altering event. I also remember seeing Suffolk County cops rushing towards the city...so many units tried to help. Unfortunately my cousin passed away trying to rescue people as one of the 22 or 23 NYPD heroes, but I'll never forget Mayor Guiliani showing up at his funeral and shaking my hand. At 11 years old shaking the mayor's hand was unbelievable and it was just so nice of him to show up to all the NYPD funerals. Something I will tell my kids about some day. Anyway, I have a picture somewhere of me on a field trip in the city with the WTC behind me and I have been searching like crazy for it. I really want to save that. Sorry guys, just experienced a few flashbacks!

I truly miss the old towers and I as well as many other New Yorker's seem to have favored building something close if not exactly the same as the old ones, but the new one is still gorgeous and it's just nice to see something dominating lower Manhattan again!

The news just stated that the last piece of the tower will be lifted today which is also the anniversary of the assassination of Bin Laden! Very symbolic!!

I think assassination is the wrong word, i'd say "death".

Today has started...Near 8am there in New York. I just saw the tridents in the base ! Surprised to see them, I don't remember seeing them in renders or earlier pics of construction ? Quite a statement to the original towers. I know the Memorial has parts of the original WTC but seeing these strong and proud at the entrance to the new WTC is a shock. When was this decided...or have I just missed something ?

If you really knew the old WTC you would know those tridents were curved, not straight angled like the new ones. And the new ones go on in different directions while the old ones went up parallel.
