Will this be the final comm ring? the one that sit's atop now about 1/16 of the way done, or is there 1 more to go above that? Gotta say the rocket looks quite sharp in that flawless photo.

That would be fun! Knowing someone who has an interest in the WTC like I do.

I must say, it's pretty amazing as a new yorker to see this building looking almost completed - as this area has been in shambles for years... I went around the financial district taking some photos the past two days. The world trade center is finally taking shape again.

I hated this building to begin with, although it's finally growing on me.

In a recent AP article they said it would take longer until the spire is completed:

"NEW YORK -- Adorned with an American flag that flapped in the breeze, the last pieces of a silver spire were hoisted to the top of the World Trade Center on Thursday as construction workers cheered its ascent. The final two segments of the 408-foot spire will rest on a construction platform for several weeks until the entire needle is permanently installed. With the spire as its crown, the trade center will soar to a symbolic 1,776 feet in the air – a reference to the birth of the nation in 1776."

Bloody hell, guys I know I am only making a statement from an Australian perspective but the lives lost on 9/11 mean celebration can not be something to consider for a top out of the pinnacle.
So I see two important marks in history for the USA and this building.
Independence Day would be a nice time to celebrate the renewal of New York's skyline. ( Guys get the glass complete come 4th July ? )
Come September the human side of the story is far more relevant. I just hope New York can celebrate the top out of the pinnacle as it is meant to be. This time is for the city and it's life. We will remember those that lost their life, now quite a time ago but not with any less heart. New York just needs to be able to celebrate this as it is...Your back, your strong and the people have won. Lest We Forget....

Yup, that's the last ring

As to the article, maybe they meant that for weeks various parts of the antenna have been waiting for their instalation on that platform. I doubt they would need several weeks just to lift the last piece

hmmm... Wouldn't it in theory be possible to cover up the antenna so that it looked like/became the spire of the original idea?? I mean, The platforms must be able to hold the metal used to do it?

I'm assuming you don't look like a 72 pixel mushroom.

I'll be spending plenty of time at the WTC, and will try to gain access to 70 Pine Street's old observatory for some extremely rare shots.

Good luck with that, I believe it's only accessible to executives and employees.

They've allowed access to their VIP club floor to photographers before. I think if I butter up to them about the WTC then I'll have a really good chance. I may pay a small fee to convince them too.
