I've been monitoring the live feed camera all day(it's usually my screensaver), and I haven't seen either crane move an inch all day. I'm 2 hours southwest of NYC and it's been rainy and pretty cloudy on and off all day long here so I would assume it's about the same there today. Apparently, these news channels need to visit SSC daily to get their info

This is going to be such a powerful moment. It's been almost 12 years. 1WTC is back and redesigned!

I'll never forgot how strong and bold it looked to me in person.

As we wait for the last piece of the spire to be placed, I Post some historical documents.
I don't know if anybody has posted them before, but I guess nobody would complain about that.

First this ad of Pakistan International Airlines of 1979. The advertisers that did this ad had no clue how unfortunate it would be 21 years later. Although I find it somehow shocking, it is not anything else than an unfortunate coincidence. I hope nobody takes this in a wrong way, I post it just as curiosity.

And this are some pages of a supplement published on the New York Times on february 28th 1971, to advertise the then still in construction, World Trade Center Complex.
I just post this five pages here, but there are 16 pages in total, you can find the rest of the supplement in this Flickr album: http://www.flickr.com/photos/3447164...th/7914742406/

The WTC newspaper:

Really great find, the rendering there shows the old hotel design as well.
Im sad I never got to visit them until they fell. I only got to see the ruins a few weeks after 9/11.

The new world trade center is architecturally better and all, but there is just something special about the twins. Like they were alive, had their own presence, cant explain it.

I just read something that really puts 9/11 in perspective IMO...nearby to me in the town of Islip on Long Island, about 300 people died on 9/11. Now keep in mind the town of Islip is about 40-50 miles east of Manhattan and takes anywhere from about 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 by train. To affect communities this much even 50 miles from Manhattan (still pretty close but considered a bit of a trip for locals) just goes to show the magnitude.

Not to try to be controversial or anything but personally after the Boston Marathon bombings I was kind of pissed at the media for giving it seemingly the same amount of attention as 9/11 because the death toll was 3,000 vs. 4. Of course the Boston incident was terrible and no death is ok in a terror attack, but when people tried to make it out to be so big it took away from 9/11 focus in my mind. Hope it's not taken the wrong way I'm sure someone else agrees. Anyway, can't wait to see this baby tomorrow!

No one could have said this any better. The new WTC Complex is more glamorous architecturally. 4WTC is elegant. 1 WTC is as well. 2 and 3 will be absolutely stunning. HOWEVER, even though the old twins were sorta dull, but massive, they hold a place NOTHING will ever completely fill. But I am so proud to see the new 1WTC. I'll never forget how I and so many others felt in the days, weeks, months after 9/11. I didn't see the old WTC either. I saw the ruins in the weeks after. I had made )completed) plans to visit NYC on Sept 22nd, 2001. The Twin Towers were the FIRST place I had on my list to visit

I really encourage everyone to watch NBC's Today show tomorrow to watch the spire rising, the host will be up with it, and I imagine they will show live shots of it rising in HD (Not not earthcams 'HD', REAL TV HD).

It starts at 7am like all american morning shows, but it should be a special edition so they will talk nothing but 1WTC for the first 10 minutes, then talk nothing but 1WTC again from 7:30am till like 7:45am

Which has got higher roof height: 2 IFC or 1 WTC?
(Not taking into account the spire and rings)
