What is there to celebrate? The completion of a 400 ft. pencil? I personally think the spire is horrible. The design of it has been cheapened to death, and it is far too tall. I sincerely hope this doesn't ever get the title of the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. It doesn't deserve it. If the Sears Tower antennae doesn't count towards its final height, then the antennae here shouldn't.

NOW that the Mast is complete, we look forward to several more Milestones! Two of which are imminent!

- Cladding/ Window completion is only a couple weeks away
- Communications Ring completion is a few weeks away
- Guy wires for Mast probably in June
- Base cladding completion still about 5 months away

If you mean roof height, then Sears Tower is taller, but 1 WTC is higher by official height.
1 WTC MAY BE higher by official height!

Chicago does have a point. The Sears does have 4 more higher floors. However I see it like this, the Sears and the old WTC was both advertised to have 110 floors yet the WTC still came out a little shorter, therefore floors is irrelevant. Like it was said, the Sears tower has an antenna on top of it that can easily be changed multiple times for obvious reasons while the antenna (spire) on One WTC cannot be changed. Now the only thing that confuses me is the spire on One WTC is said to operate as an antenna too regardless if the radome was on or not but I taught that was what the communication ring was purposely for. So my thing is since everybody was against the removal of the spire radome shell, would there still be an height issue if the radome was on even though it's still operates as an antenna?

The Aqua in Chicago (86 floors) has 20 more floors than Ping An in Shenzhen (66 floors), yet the Aqua is 861 feet while Ping An is 2,165 feet. Goes to show how irrelevant floor count is.

Yeah, I have to admit, that I still refer to it as the "Sears Tower" and kind of cringe when I hear Willis tower. It's kind of like growing up with a brother named Jake, when all of the sudden, in our 20's he changes his name to Steve. Just doesn't fly with me and it would surprise you of the outcome, if you were to go to say California, or anywhere else for that matter, and show them a picture of the The big black tower in Chicago, how many people would still call it the "Sears Tower" and tell you they had no idea the name had even changed. The Sears Tower is definitely an Icon in American history, and regardless of which building turns out to be taller, The Sears Tower will always hold a special place in ones mind for a lifetime just like 1WTC will do in 20 years or so

Yeah, obviously floor count can have little bearing on the overall height of a tower. More floors may sound good in a discussion between people that really just have no idea about Skyscrapers.

Tenants would rather have a building with less floors because it means higher ceilings and higher quality space. More floors is almost a bad thing to be honest. Hence why 1WTC's space is so much better than that of the former WTC's.

Completely agree! Who would want to live on the 164th floor of a 2100ft tower

The FAA red lighting flashes too quickly, unlike the ESB which has a nice rhythm!

Oh come on, he talked to a random guy on the street. Give him a break. What the guy basically said, was that if they counted the 1 WTC antennae, where would the limit be ? Theoretically, you could just build a 300m building, and add a 300m spire. Making it a 600m building according to the CTBUH.
