Trump tower is 1,389 with its spire, without it, it's 1,170. Thats a 219 ft difference. Meanwhile, 1 wtc's antennae is 432 ft.

432>219

Tell me now, which one is more of a cheat ? 1 WTC gets almost a third of its height from the antennae, Trump gets a little over a 1/7 of its height from the stick. By all definitions, Trump has a spire, and 1 WTC has an antenna.

I love both Chicago and NY, but your statement was very hypocritical

The "balconies' are the supports for the radome covering that has now been cancelled.
Personally, I don't think it looks too bad. It would look a bit strange if it was very thin all the way up.
I wonder if there would be any possibility of stringing some cheap christmas lights between the section so it would look filled out at night!

Actually I was talking about the white LED flashing like a lighthouse. Was that only once to show it off when they completed the spire?

It must be the symbol of the area, so the first started the One WTC, I suppose.

World Trade Center site sits empty as rivals lease up
With no big deal inked since Condé Nast, all three buildings there have huge vacancies.
http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...TATE/305129977

"Meanwhile, many real estate experts had thought law firm Jones Day might anchor the yet-to-be-built 3 WTC, but it is instead close to inking a 400,000-square-foot deal at Brookfield Place, the four-building office complex just across West Street from the trade center site.

"It's definitely disappointing," said Christopher Ward, former executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the WTC site. "Jones Day should have been the deal that 3 World Trade Center landed."

Billions have been spent on a stunning Santiago Calatrava-designed transit hub, a new Fulton Street subway station and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to create what the site's boosters call the city's pre-eminent office neighborhood. Now the glut of space has turned stakeholders into rivals.

1 WTC vs. 4 WTC:

"There's only one 1 World Trade Center," noted Douglas Durst, chief executive of the Durst Organization, which co-owns the 3.5 million-square-foot tower with the Port Authority. "Those who want to be in the best building will come here."
Silverstein Properties, which is building the 75-story, 2.5 million-square-foot 4 WTC, has a different perspective.
"We have a building that's going to feel like a tower on Park Avenue," said Janno Lieber, president of Silverstein's World Trade Center Properties. By comparison, 1 WTC will have an imposing, 120-foot-high bomb-proof concrete base and Times Square-like crowds queuing up to visit its observation deck.

The heated race for tenants hasn't led to Silverstein Properties and the Port Authority undercutting each other on price at the WTC site. In fact, the site's relatively high rents are a key reason it has lagged behind other properties in attracting takers.
Jones Day, for instance, is said to be negotiating a lease in the $50s per square foot at Brookfield Place. And Time Warner would get an even cheaper rent at Hudson Yards, where that site's developer, the Related Cos., has pledged to give early tenants their space at cost in order to get construction going there.

"It's not surprising Time Warner is going to the yards; they could probably get a rent in the low $40s per square foot," Mr. Ward said. "Buildings at the World Trade Center need to get in the mid-$60s per square foot, at least."
Nos. 1 and 4 WTC are not yet desperate, thanks in part to government contracts. Before Condé Nast, 1 WTC had previously secured a total of about 500,000 square feet of commitments from the federal government and Vantone Holdings, which will provide office space to China-based firms. And earlier this year, sports-stadium operator Legends agreed to run the tower's observatory in a deal with the Port Authority that's estimated to be worth $875 million over the 15-year lease.

Meanwhile, at 4 WTC, Silverstein Properties has a total of 1.2 million square feet of leasing commitments split between the city and the Port Authority.

A deadline for 3 WTC:

Pressure is mounting, however, to find a taker for 3 WTC, an 80-story, 2.8 million-square-foot skyscraper that Silverstein Properties wants to build between 4 WTC and the transit hub. Currently, 3 WTC stands at seven stories, accommodating retail space and mechanical systems, but can't proceed higher without a large commitment from an office tenant.

If Silverstein can't find any takers within a year, when the site will have nearly transitioned from a construction zone into a neighborhood, it will have to build a permanent roof to protect the structure. That's a relatively tight timeline in the world of jumbo-size leases. Restarting the tower after that would be more costly.

Silverstein, though, has been through this before. After initially struggling to lease 7 WTC, the company filled the building at above-market rental rates just a few years after it was finished in 2006, and completely leased it by 2011, despite earlier suggestions from Mayor Michael Bloomberg to slash rents.

"There is a really good feeling downtown right now about leasing," said Peter Riguardi, New York area president of brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle. "We're nearing the end of 10-plus years of construction there, and with the site almost done, I think tenants are now clearly going to see this is a place they want to be."

Hmmm I'm a little underwhelmed by this tower unfortunately. The twin towers were far more iconic.

Although ecstatic that the beacon was finally lifted and One WTC is finally topped off, I must say the beacon sitting on top of the spire looks like a warhead or a spear/arrowhead. It's ok...but kind of aggressive looking and war like, and a bit conflicting with the smooth, sleek design of the rest of the tower. I think a continuation of the platform rings, only designed to be a beacon would have looked great...or even some sort of round/ballish, metal framed design. Anyway, it is what it is and like the rest of the tower, I'm sure it will grow on me, and look especially beautiful at night when all lit up.
