Absolutely stunning tower

There is this general idea that's been going around, that simplicity is a bad thing. I couldn't disagree more. Boxy towers are the best. From the Sears, to this, they are our origins, and they continue to impress like they did a hundred years ago.

There is nothing more beautiful than a single thin structure that gets slimmer as it rises. While 1 WTC doesn't perfectly fit the conceptual image I am thinking of, it comes close, and it's certainly a beautiful stronghold for NY's concrete jungle.

1 WTC is a 9/10 for me, simplicity at its finest. It's really an evolution or revolution of the original world trade center design, and something we rarely see.

^ Well said. Leave those curvy and twisty buildings to other cities.
I have a feeling that all those new towers will age very well.

I love the way this tower gives a revolutionary element to the tapering of buildings as it slims up reaching higher and higher into the sky, and for me the antenna, while a little too raw in my eyes, has the right idea. After looking at the difference in cladding for the base and the main frame, the different usage of shapes, different usage of material, the venting near the top, the communications ring, and lastly the antenna, the tower has an industrial look to it that leads me to call it deconstructivist tower, which is one of my favorite styles of all time.

I still think 4 Times Square mast is better, even though it is more of a mess than 1 WTC's mast. Call me crazy, but I just love the look of an industrial antenna/mast more than I do the radome.

It gives off a raw touch the Twin's mast did.

The Mast will certainly look better once the temporary platforms, the Doghouse and cranes are removed.

I too like an industrial one a lot, but clean ones can achieve the same effect if done correctly. I think Conde Nast's is done perfectly, and I'd count it to the height if I was the one who chose.

When I enlarge the picture and compare I like the clean pretty antenna on the left.

When I look at the small picture, I like the industrial antenna, naked, on the right. Why? To me, it looks like a tiara or some sort of a crown given the attention is drawn toward the round platform rather than the antenna's design.

Hopefully the platform will be lit and twinkle frequently with sparkling lights on the hour like the Eiffel Tower to really truly gives the impression of a crown or tiara on the head of a tall majestic lady liberty.

432>219

Tell me now, which one is more of a cheat ? 1 WTC gets almost a third of its height from the antennae, Trump gets a little over a 1/7 of its height from the stick. By all definitions, Trump has a spire, and 1 WTC has an antenna.

I love both Chicago and NY, but your statement was very hypocritical
Not sure why tall buildings in the U.S. love using a long and thin structure on top to add height to the buildings. Maybe I need to attach a 100-m antenna/spire to the roof of my house. That way my house would be the tallest in the city of Stockton.

A spire cannot be more than 50% of the building's official height.

At first it didn't look 540m for me.

So is it a spire or an antenna?
