The last image that show's the base cladding looks like 2 of the trident exterior columns of the twin towers were in this tower.

Sorry but it drives me nuts when people correct its name. 90% of people here in NJ call it the Freedom Tower

90% of people in err does not make it correct or justified to continue in err. It drives me nuts when people call it The Freedom Tower. That's simply not the name of it, it's been renamed One World Trade Center for long enough now that those who did not know, should know by now and get it right. Out of respect for the new tower, one should at least try to call it by it's correct name.

Although they aren't originals, they are a very, very nice touch, aren't they?

Agreed. People get too attached personally to names IMO. Just look at Chicago's Willis Tower. People refuse to stop calling it Sears!

So arrogant....

but I have lost all hope in the rebuilding of this entire complex. What was originally supposed to be a symbol of American resilience has mutated into a clusterf***k synonymous with the nation's upcoming downfall, complete with the leader's signature who presided over it all.
Makes no sense what so ever. We all know things like this isn't done over night.

You can see Lower Manhattan from NJ (Six Flags), which is miles away from the city, on a clear day or night.

Durst lied to us about why the changes were made and Foyer allowed the changes to be made, notwithstanding chief architect Childs' own dissent.
Again, where is the proof? The base change was done for safety reasons. The removable of the radome might have been removed to save a few bucks, that I agree on, but looking at the diagrams of the radome you can see how hard it would have been to provide mantaince on it. Imagine being in there in the summer or winter weather.

China is looking better

My China comment was one liner, so please don't take it too seriously. I was just inferring that watching Chinese skyscrapers constructed these days is more satisfying than Western ones that are either on hold or constantly changed.
Sarcasm or not. This sounded like another NY vs China comment. Blah, blah, blah; China builds supertalls likes it nothing, so now they're better than the rest of the world. Please.

All of what he said sounded like a drunk, idiotic rant. Made no sense what so ever.

Anyone can say what they'd like about the fact that these buildings might not be the architectural one-man shows that they build over in China, Korea, and the Middle East these days, but remember these points. New York does not need its architecture to compete with those places. There is a deeply embedded symbolism in the particular design of this complex with the wedge of light, and the fact that an ensemble cast of architects designed it. It's how America does things. Lay down your discontent with the pace of the construction. There have been a whole lot of things in recent times that contributed to the lack of available tenants, and like any building, they need to collect rent to make any sense. It's a sensitive project. Let's just enjoy the opportunity to watch the progress of the entire thing, and savor its completion that much more. There's no need to be disappointed!

It's truly incredible to see how many bullshit comments are being posted about other towers or other countries. Maybe it's me, but isn't this the One World Trade Center topic? Think it is so please, please stay on-topic and go whine somewhere else about China or how disgusting this tower may be. Thank you.

Now I have a question. Is there any news on the installing of the glass panels at the base and the top of the building? It seems like the progress has been frozen.

Here is a great photo of the light fixtures (black boxes) on the permanent rings which is their main purpose now.

Sorry.... a little lazy here and didn't want to go searching back many pages. Did I hear that in order to save money, the spire is going to remain as is and not get covered as the original rendering portrayed? Or, am I mistaken?
